First of all Buffon had defenders before him mate who were really great such as Thuram, Cannavaro it is about the past years I am not talking about today!Besides Chiellini is a top class defender! Second van der Sar brings to me Ferdinand and Vidic which means I take his defending squad in ManU and not Fulham!
At last this was my opinion, say yours and stop analysing everything I post!

Surprised Sergio Ramos is not in the nominees. I would have gone for Gazza if he hadn't got injured for the past two seasons. Douglas Maicon is the big man for me.

you forgot schmeichel and kopke for the gk, and for the defenders i alwyas choose nesta-cannavaro as the pair of CD.for the RB i think that gary neville and LB maldini or roberto carlos.

The decade will end at the end of 2010. ;) So, we still have one more year to Buffon proves he is the best Goalkeeper of the last decade (actual) and one of the greatest keepers ever. :)

I didn't include him because his performances only came to be known recently compared to the others whose performances stretched far into the decade.

Well that aside here are the nominees for LB

Nominees: Roberto Carlos, Paolo Maldini, Bixente Lizarazu, Ashley Cole, Eric Abidal, Patrice Evra, Gabriel Heinze, Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Edit: added Giovanni van Bronckhorst as nominee.

I like full backs, so Maldini even though he's a brilliant defender can't really compete with that.
I'd probably vote for Roberto Carlos... though he's more of an offensive oriented full back.
Evra is very strong and probably better than Carlos with his defensive duties, but there's something with his attitude I don't like.
Cole is quality, but not sure he's good enough for the past decade.

So, Carlos it is :beer
