Members Point System

Alright! I've spoken with a good friend / coder. He'll make our point system plugin until the end of this month, but will be hopefully ready by the end of next week.

So the first winner of a premium account will be decided by our automated point system at the end of January.

What is the point system going to be, so how many for a post,etc?

so far, i'm considering this pattern:

forum post = 2 points
page published = 5 points
blog entry = 10 points
comment made = 2 points
item rated = 1 point

would you guys want points to be shown in a box to the left column or just in a standalone page? you should be able to see rankings by month, year and all-time

rankings won't be real-time as it would kill the server, but the counters should update automatically once or twice a day.

could you do both a standalone page and have the points where currently the number of posts are shown?

you mean in the forum posts?
i don't want to replace posts with points, but i could add it as an extra i guess.

Yeah add it as extra just underneath it. Also would your rank "hot prospect", "rotation", "legend" etc be built depending on your points or posts or both?

nope, that depends on posts only and shall remain this way.

The point system concept is abandoned by now, but will be introducing a karma points system shortly; will apply to posts, pages and comments.

You will have to be carefull with this idea cos people may start posting crap just to get points. i suggest points for the best topics and blogs etc as voted for by the best members and staff.

Hmm, posting crap won't hold up mate; giving crap ratings could be more likely, but that is only natural. We will see how it works out once it's introduced one of these days.

It's still quite early on the new site version, plenty of more features and a bunch of new content sections will be introduced soon. Various improvements here and there are also coming along on a daily basis, but usually go unnoticed.
