I'm not one to bore you with extensive copy-and-paste sections from a clubs Wikipedia article, so if you want a full history lesson then you're in the wrong place. However, I will give you a rough summary.

Parma are one of the most successful and recognisable clubs in Italian football, despite the fact that they have (as of yet) never won the Serie A. They have however lifted 3 Coppa Italia, 1 Supercoppa Italia, 2 Uefa Cups, 1 European Super Cup and 1 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. They perhaps enjoyed the most success during the 90s and early 00s, but in 2003 the club's then sponsors - Parmalat - endured a pretty public scandal which resulted in the parent company collapsing and Parma entered a controlled administration in 2007. After recovering from this and rebuilding themselves, more financial trouble caused mostly by Tommaso Ghirardi resulted in the club going bankrupt and having to reform as Parma Calcio 1913, but at a cost.

Parma had to start life in Serie D, but in their first season they won promotion to the Serie C, Italian football's lowest professional league.

So you're probably wondering why exactly I want to take over as manager at Parma. Well there's a few reasons, ones which I shall now explain.

Reason 1 - I love a fallen giant. My favourite type of save in FM is restoring a fallen giant to former glories, and if possible, making more history at the club. Parma fit this catergory perfectly.

Reason 2 - Prospects. Parma have so much potential. Not necessarily in terms of players (we'll cover that later), but in terms of what I could do with the club. The obvious challenge is returning Parma to the Serie A, but what about being the first man to win it with them? Parma have won the UEFA Cup, but maybe I could be the one to win the Champions League? How about dethroning Juventus as the best club in Italy? I could go on.

Reason 3 - What they stand for. Now I don’t know everything about Parma, but I do know that they built up a reputation for playing attractive football and developing players through the club’s academy. Just to name a few – Gianluigi Buffon, Simone Barone, Giuseppe Rossi and Stefano Pioli. I’m certain I can add to this list.

So, it’s settled – I will become the manager of Parma! Can I rebuild the Italian giants to their former selves? Can I be the man to bring a first title to Parma? Can I continue the traditions of previous managers and make them a force in Europe again? Let’s find out!
