AS Livorno Calcio was formed in 1915.
Their nickname Amaranto which means dark red in Italian comes from the colour of their kit.
They play their home games at the Stadio Armando Picchi that was opened in 1935 and holds 19,238 people.

History

Their best finish in Serie A was coming 2nd by one point to Torino in the 1942–43 season.
Livorno has won Serie B twice 1932/33 and 1936/37 and runner-up once in the 1939/40 season.

Recent times-
2012/13- 3rd Serie B, Won 2-1 Aggregate VS Empoli for promotion to Serie A.
2013/14- 20th Serie A, Finished on 25 points and 9 points from safety.
2014/15- To balance the books due to the club’s relegation, Star striker Paulinho was sold. He had scored 20 goals in Serie B 12/13 and 15 in 13/14 relegation year.
Livorno finished 9th in Serie B that year a 3-0 away loss to play-off winners Pescara in the final game of the season when a draw would have seen them into the final play-off position of 8th.

2015/16- With the club hoping for a promotion race they ended up slipping into a fight to stay up, unbeaten in their final 4 games couldn’t save them from relegation. The final game of the season was at home against Virtus Lanciano and knowing that a win was their only hope of staying up they went into half-time 2 goals up 25’ and 45+2’ 2, both goals came from midfielder Mattia Aramu. The second half began 9839 people watched on as the away side started to dominate. 67th minute Livorno goal keeper Mateo Ricci was sent off for a foul in the box, Virtus had halved the deficit. Giandonato of Virtus came on with 62 minutes on the clock only to be yellow carded 18 minutes later. Just 6 minutes remaining of normal time Livorno were hanging on but they didn’t do enough because Virtus equalised! 90’ on the clock Giandonato trying to kill of the game got his second yellow card they were down to 10 as well. Then finally in the 4th minute of injury time Virtus go down to 9 striker Federico Di Francesco was shown a straight red but that didn’t matter because…

The final whistle was blown it finished AS Livorno 2-2 Virtus Lanciano. Livorno where going to be playing their football in the third division of Italian football Lega Pro. Como had already been confirmed weeks ago, but Modena and Livorno joined them due to the final day results. The fourth team would be decided by a two-legged relegation play-off. Salernitana got the away advantage for the first game due to them finishing above Virtus Lanciano. It wasn’t a tricky match for them either they won 4-1 which meant Virtus would have to score at least 4 goals at their ground in 4 days’ time. The return leg was no different it took Salernitana just 20 minutes to find the back of the net and after a long hard season for both sides it ended like that. Salernitana 5-1 Virtus Lanciano- aggregate score.

Virtus Lanciano didn’t register for Lega Pro due to financial and administrative issues therefore the club was excluded altogether from the Italian football league pyramid, and is currently only active as a youth sector.

Cesare Bertolotti
Born- September 19th 1982, Brescia


2013/14- Managed Brescia u19’s it was his first managerial role. Finished 6th.

2014/15- he took the role of Assistant manager and First team coach of Brescia Calcio. They finished 20th and would have been relegated to Lega Pro but after Parma’s bankruptcy and demotion to Serie D they kept their place.

2015/16- Cesare Bertolotti was on the move again, he went to manage Monza Brianza relegated to Serie D, about an 1hours drive from his home city. They finished a respectful 10th position to give stability to the club after a poor season previously.

2016/17- To the surprise of many, Relegated AS Livorno Calcio appoint Cesare Bertolotti as first team manager on a one year contract.
