Valérien Ismaël named Wolves Head Coach

Valérien Ismaël has been named as the new Wolverhampton Wanderers Head Coach for the 2016/17 season after the clubs new owners decided they wanted to take the club into a new era.

Ismaël, who has previously managed VfL Wolfsburg, has been free from a job for only a number of months. He is known for playing as a centreback during his career which saw him take a spell at Crystal Palace during the late 90's.

Speaking at a press conference, Valérien Ismaël had this to say:

"I am hoping to make my mark here at Wolverhampton Wanderers. I hope to play exciting and attacking football and I think with the signings that the club has made, alongside any I plan to make will see us around the play-offs by the end of the season."

"The board have made a good decision in signing me, and I am going to prove that."

Wolverhampton Wanderers supporter and local Labour Party councillor Daniel Warren had this to say about the appointment:

"He seems a little full of himself, but if the confidence is there I can't wait for it to bleed into the team and we'll see how confident we look when we're on the pitch."

August 2016

After a poor start initially, Wolves finished their first month under new management in a very strong position.

The first game of the season saw Wolves battle away at the New York Stadium in Rotherham, a game which saw the away team have most of the possession and most of the chances. Poor finishing from the side lead to the Rotherham side scoring just on the brink of half-time. Wolverhampton Wanderers looked defeated during their second half, and this resulted in Danny Ward scoring for the home side, leaving Wolves fans leaving Rotherham in dour spirits.

The first game to grace the Molineux was a home tie in the cup against Southend. Wolves took the lead early on through a header goal at the far post from captain Danny Batth following a corner. Helder Costa, who was playing as a wing-back during the game doubled the lead with a perfect shot slotted into the right corner at the 37 minute mark. After the break, Southend tightened their grip on the game with a goal following a mistake from Wolves Midfielder Romain Saiss. Jon Dadi Bodvarsson put Wolves 3-1 up twenty minutes later, with Southend following quickly with nothing more than a consolation goal.

Wolves then went on to face Reading at home. After a poor first half from both sides, 18-year-old starlet Bright Enobakhare opened the scoring in the 57th minute, before Wanderers veteran David Edwards completing the games scoring on the 78th minute.

For the third home game on the trot, Wolves welcomed the tractor boys of Ipswich to the Molineux. The one and only goal in a game filled with yellow cards was from forward Ben Marshall who recently signed from Blackburn.

Following this, a Midlands Derby. It was a heated affair, with Emilio Nsue opening the scoring for the Blues on the 32nd minute mark. Bright Enobakhare equalised just three minutes later. Clayton Donaldson pounced on a mistake from one of the Wolves' defenders and the game looked to be over before Ben Marshall sent the crowd into raptures with a 91st minute equaliser.

The cup returned to the Molineux next, with a home tie against Swindon Town facing the Wolves. It was an easy affair in which Swindon only managed one shot on target. Goals from Bright Enobakhare (2) and Ben Marshall secured what was always going to be a Wolves win.

The final game of the season saw Wolves travelling to Huddersfield which saw the game over by half time. David Edwards scored a magnificent solo effort after capitalising on a mistake from a Huddersfield defender and loanee Callum McGregor scored just before the half time mark.
Very nice start to this story alongside some very good results, although one thing is that it's quite difficult to read the goalscorers, I like to be able to do that and would have to zoom very close in to see that. Otherwise, good update :)
Yeah I agree. I can fix that for the next one as there'll be more space because the transfers won't be there. Perhaps I should do a separate graphic for the January transfers!

Thanks Scott :)

September 2016

Wolverhampton Wanderers continued what was a strong start to the season, other than a heavy 4-2 defeat at the hands of promotion favourites Newcastle United.

Two 0-0 draws have left Wolverhampton Wanderers two places below the 3rd place spot that they were occupying just a few games into this month.

A mixture of form, and a number of injuries to Helder Costa who has been playing superbly as a left-wing-back since the start of the season, forward Joe Mason and winger Ivan Cavaleiro have left the Wolves team resorting to using the likes of sixteen-year-old Morgan Gibbs-White who scored on his debut and youngster Bright Enobakhare who has been firing in so far this season.

Bright Enobakhare
was nominated for for the EFL Young Player of the Month for August which he won and gratefully accepted. David Edwards came second in the EFL Player of the Month award for August.
Much better :P Decent month there but you must be disappointed dropping two points to bottom of the league Wigan!
Yeah, definitely disappointed!

October 2016

Another mixed month for the Wanderers saw them draw their opening game of the month to recently-relegated Norwich.

Three strong wins against Blackburn, Aston Villa and Leeds United secured Wolves their highest position of the season so far.

In the EFL Cup, Wolves dominated their local rivals West Bromwich Albion, but a mistake in the first half left them crashing out of the cup.

Massadio Haidara came third in the EFL Championship Player of the Month for October award, while Karol Swiderski and Dominic Iorfa came first and second respectfully in the Young Player of the Month award.

November 2016

In what was relatively a short month, Wolves came out of it unbeaten, keeping their position in third place.

The first game saw Romain Saiss score his first ever goal for the club, while Joe Mason returned from injury with a goal to secure the draw.

The second game of the season saw Wolverhampton Wanderers perform a rout away from home, with three of their young starlets getting on the score-sheet.

The final game was an odd one, providing 5 goals within one half, and four of them coming within 10 minutes.
