free transfers yield no results and when you swap a player to your team they don't show in the squad but if you search for them and look at their profile they show as being at the club but with no contract even after continuing game you can't see them in squad.

also is there an option to transfer the player to a squad other than swapping them with another player?

We're investigating the issue with swapping players.

Option to transfer a player "properly" (future transfer) will be introduced in a future update, quite possibly later this month.
