Ryan Ferguson:
"I was moderately happy with the quality of the squad. Our depth in wide attacking areas was good and we had reasonable depth in midfield. I wasn't too happy with the quality of our defenders, aside from the left back position, and was didn't have too many star players. Jack Bearne was a player I was excited about."

The quality is mixed within this side, but that is always to be expected from a newly promoted side. Your midfield is certainly the strongest part of your squad and will be key in any success earned this season.

An Overview Of Oxford City In August - October 2020

Discussion
Two major signings in recent months. In came midfielders Tilsson and James. They added invaluable experience and leadership qualities. Tilsson came in to supplement our defensive midfield options, while James came in to be a star player (of sorts) in our midfield. He was brought in to be the playmaker.

Oxford City Proved To Be The Real Deal Early On In The Season

I would say that the season has been very positive so far. We lost just one league game in the three months, scoring a reasonable number of goals in the process. We weren't very consistent at times but we seemed to be able to get results when performances were going against us.

We crashed out of the EFL Cup immediately at the hands of Doncaster. We weren't ready for the intensity of the game and we were completely outclassed. We were much better in the two EFL Trophy fixtures as we won against Crystal Palace U23s in stoppage time before comfortably brushing Swindon Town aside.

Player of the Month

Ryan Longman Was Oxford City's Star Player During August - October 2020

Ryan Longman demonstrated incredible improvements this season to become a very important players for us in attack. Operating on the left, Longman scored seven and assisted two more in just fourteen games. Phenomenal, that.

EFL League Two

Oxford City Were Top Of The Table After 18 Games

Miraculously, we made it to the top of the table. Our results were good but I had expected other teams to be earning far more points than us. Oh well, I cannot complain.

Finances

Oxford City's Finances Had Taken A Hit

The previous stadium expansions and facility upgrades had seen our balance decimated. The increased running costs were also getting to us. We had not yet built a foundation where our turnover could support us so we were struggling. We knew that cup runs and players sales would be required to keep us afloat over the next two or three seasons as we aclimatised to the EFL.

Upcoming Fixtures

Oxford City Will Play Two Cup Games In November

Bromley awaited us in the FA Cup. We knew all about them and we were looking forward to destroying them. We had one more EFL Trophy Group Stage game, against Plymouth. It was effectively a dead rubber game as we were guaranteed passage to the next round anyway. Three league games also awaited us.

Season 2020/2021: November

An Overview Of Oxford City In November 2020

Ryan Ferguson:
"Following a pretty-damn decent start to life in the EFL, we were looking to push on and make a real statement to the other challengers. We wanted to continue our development and reach new heights with each season and each game."

Oxford City Crashed Out Of The FA Cup Against A Strong Bolton

The month of November was dominated by cup fixtures. We played twice in the FA Cup, first hammering Bromley 4-0 in the First Round. Bolton Wanderers awaited us in the Second Round and they proved too strong for us. We scored twice but conceded double that as we crashed out. We continued our excellent form in the EFL Trophy with a 4-0 romping of Plymouth Argyle.

Our league play wasn't too bad. Jack Bearne was the sole goal scorer in our league game against Bromley, before we suffered defeat to Ebbsfleet United. We bounced back with a comfortable win over Newport County to earn us six points from nine in November.

Player of the Month

Jack Bearne Was Oxford City's Star Player During November 2020

Jack Bearne was quite easily our best player in November. The young former Liverpool youth attacker was in electric goal scoring form, scoring in four different games for us. He was probably the best player in the league and with him, we had every chance of competing for honours.

EFL League Two

Oxford City Were Top Of The Table After 21 Games

We were three points clear of our closest rivals Colchester, with us still topping the table. We had already earned enough points to surely secure safety and our sights were set on winning the league.

Finances

Oxford City's Finances Had Taken A Hit

Our finances were slowly hurting. Our club did not have the economic foundation of an EFL team and we needed major income to survive, in soon time. We knew that we would inevitably have to sell players to survive.

Upcoming Fixtures

Oxford City Will Continue Their League Campaign In November

Newport County awaited us in the Second Round of the EFL Trophy. We would also continue our league campaign with big games against Swindon Town, Oldham Athletic, Cambridge United and Mansfield.

Season 2020/2021: December

An Overview Of Oxford City In December 2020

Ryan Ferguson:
"We were into the thick of the season and we wanted to keep pushing on in a similar vein to how we started the campaign. December saw us make two incredibly important signings, and two more, as we looked to bolster our current side."

Oxford City Signed Craig Gardner, Sam Hughes & Kyle McFarlane In December

Discussion
Ignore the January signings. They will be described in the January update. In a bid to improve our strike force, I added Jerry Yates and Kyle McFarlane to the squad. Yates, admittedly, wasn't a good signing and I was looking to loan him out soon. Poor signing. McFarlane was decent enough to become competition for Tshimanga for the striker position.

Craig Gardner was a massive signing. Incredibly experienced at the highest level of English football, Gardner had the tactical intelligence, the experience and the technical qualities required to make an incredible difference. While his body had begun to fail him, his impact from set-pieces and in the dressing room would surely be a huge boost.

Our best signing was probably Sam Hughes. The former Leicester City player was once expected to become a top-class English defender. We were willing to give him a second chance in the game and we wanted to push him to become as good a defender as possible.

Results

Oxford City Were Unbeaten In A Successful December

Decent, I would say. Victory away from home against Swindon Town set the tone before we ran out as penalty shootout winners over Newport County in the EFL Trophy. We recorded back-to-back draws in the our following two league games before bouncing back with a victory to round off an impressive 2020.

Player of the Month

Josh Ashby Was Oxford City's Star Player During December 2020

EFL League Two

Oxford City Remained On Top Of The League After 2020

Two points clear at the top with a game in hand, all was going well for Oxford City. Our defensive record was the best in the league. We were looking to reinforce the squad in January too, to really put down a marker.

Finances

Oxford City's Finances Had Taken A Hit

Our balance was still plummeting. We needed to keep pushing on and get as much income as possible, with the club facing a bleak end to the financial year. Would we have to sell players in January? Hopefully not.

Upcoming Fixtures

January Was Set To Be A Very Busy Month For Oxford City

Six league games and an EFL Trophy fixture awaited us in January. The big league game was a trip to Colchester, as we would face off in a table-topping clash. Cheltenham then awaited us in the EFL Trophy.

ScottT, I'm not overly concerned with finances if we can continue achieving promotions, in truth. As soon as the rise stagnates, that's when I worry! :P

Ballon d'Or 2020

Mo Salah Was Crowned As The 2020 Ballon d'Or Winner

01/01/2021

2020 was the year of the Salah. Mohamed Salah lit up the show as he was crowned as the winner of the Ballon d'Or award, the most prestigious in association football, becoming the first player to break Cristiano Ronaldo's and Lionel Messi's incredible winning streak.

The Real Madrid and Egypt star scored 25 and assisted 8 more in 44 games as he was named as the world's best player. Since moving to the Spanish capital from Liverpool in £156M move in 2019, Salah has become, arguably, the greatest African player of all time.

Paris Saint-Germain's France star Kylian Mbappé had to settle for runner-up spot. 32 goals and 11 assists in 52 appearances was not enough for the up-and-coming superstar to grab the big prize.

Serial trophy and award winner Cristiano Ronaldo placed third in the rankings. 24 goals and 4 assists was a good tally for a player in his final years.

The same three made the top three for the FIFA Best Men's Player award, with Salah in top position and Cristiano slipping into second, narrowly behind the Egyptian King.

Atlético Madrid shot stopper Jan Oblak was named as the FIFA Best Men's Goalkeeper of 2020, proving to be just better than second placed and third placed David de Gea and Alisson Becker.

AS Monaco's Pietro Pellegri was named as the FIFA Best U21 Men's Player, as the Italian striker scored 32 times in 46 games.
