Four more players have joined newly promoted National League side Oxford City Football Club in what has been a very busy summer transfer window for the club. Four young players were signed as Oxford City looked to bolster both their senior team and their U18s side, with two joining each.

Oluwayemi will join our U18s team, and will also provide cover to the senior squad should he be needed. Originally of Nigerian descent, Oluwayemi was previously part of Tottenham Hotspur's youth setup and played thirteen times for their U18s last season, keeping two clean sheets. He was subsequently let go by the capital club but has the potential to become a decent EFL goalkeeper in the future. He is a good shot stopper but will need to work on his distribution skills.

Parkes is a little more developed and so will join our senior team to provide competition to Ryan Dickerson for a starting spot. Parkes had previously been a youth player for Southampton and kept two clean sheets in nine appearances for the U18s last season. Parkes is quite a decent shot stopper, who also needs to work on his distribution skills. He will play a few games this season.

He is quite a technical player and is naturally fit too. Pemberton played twenty-eight games for Reading's U18s last season but failed to earn a senior contract there. We'll give him the opportunity to earn a contract at our club.

ScottT, that is indeed a big reason why I selected these two particular coaches. We have one player who has picked up an incredible amount of senior games for one club, show great loyalty and professionalism, and another who has represented England at the highest youth level, as well as some of England's most reputable clubs. Both will bring different types of experience.

We added plenty of defensive reinforcements, a new stock of goalkeepers, a few midfielders and a few attackers to our side. £500 was spent on one player, a club record fee. Please look back at previous updates for details. I'm not running through them a second time.

In total, nine players left the club during pre-season. Darren Earley, Craig King and Eddie Jones all left directly for other clubs while six others were released. Here is a list of players released by the club.

Results

Oxford City Hammered Birmingham City At St. Andrews

I think the results explain themselves. We did well to draw at Portsmouth, before (surprisingly) hammering Birmingham City at St. Andrews. We lost back-to-back games against Sheffield Wednesday, Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Bradford City before returning to winning ways against Basingstoke Town and London Colney.

Oxford City Chairman Brian Cox Has Shown His Support For Manager Ferguson

It has been a busy summer transfer window for National League newbies Oxford City, having already secured the signings of no less than eleven players. With the vast majority of these players joining the senior team, it has been a sign of the times for a club very much on their way up the English football pyramid.

Among the players to join the club were experienced defenders Charlie Clough and Kenny Clark, while young stars Ryan Longman, Ryan Dickerson and Tom Bamford were among those looking to make the next step following their release from major football clubs across the nation.

A year after the club announced financial difficulties, the recent influx of signings has shown the turnaround the club has made in the previous twelve months. Much credit has gone to manager Ryan Ferguson, who has brought league and cup success to the football club. Last season's incredible FA Cup run brought the club an incredible financial boost, and winning the FA Trophy didn't do the club's balance any damage either.

Oxford City's chairman Brian Cox has been full of praise for his manager, entrusting him with full control of the club's transfer and wage budgets. Cox has spoken of his admiration for Ryan Ferguson's work ethic and his enthusiasm for the game.

Brian Cox (Oxford City Chairman):
"Ryan (Ferguson) is a man I have great time for. He comes in every day and always gives his full focus to the cause. His work ethic is second-to-none and he is non-stop in his desire to see this football club grow. He has taken to his job here like a fish to water and I can only envisage good times for this club with him in charge.

We've been fortunate enough to see our financial situation improve over the last year. That comes down to our success on the football pitch, particularly in the two cup competitions we participated in last season, and it has put us in an incredible position for the coming financial year.

We are able to significantly increase the budgets we have available for player wages and transfers. It is still nowhere near what some of the other clubs in the division have at their disposal but it is a significant upgrade on what we had. I fully trust Ryan (Ferguson) to spend this money wisely. He has done well so far and the players who have come in will surely be a big boost to the club."

Jack, I scheduled those friendlies to put my players' tactical preparation to the test. After playing against the likes of Leeds & Birmingham, the likes of Salford & Co. should be a cakewalk in comparison

Glad to see that the chairman has trust in Fergie, so he should after the fantastic work put in over the last twelve months or so. Looking forward to the new season in a new division, my expectations are high!

Oxford City Manager Ryan Ferguson Has Urged His Side To Remain Humble

A day before the kickoff of the new National League campaign, Oxford City manager Ryan Ferguson has urged his players to remain humble following an incredible National League South and FA Trophy double. The twenty-eight year old manager is keen that his players do not fall into a trap of believing they're better than they are.

Last season saw the remarkable rise of Oxford City come to fruition under the exciting manager. The club finished five points clear at the top of National League South last season. Ahead of their opening fixture of National League against Halifax Town, the focus is on winning each game once more.

Spirits are high in the Oxford City camp, but Ryan Ferguson has fired a stern warning that the side are in the same position as everybody else in the league and that no other season matters but the current one. Ferguson has his eyes set on glory but is ready to walk the hard-miles to achieve his goals.

Ryan Ferguson:
"We're ready for tomorrow. They (Halifax Town) are quite an established team in this division and they have a fantastic football stadium too. We know they have some great qualities in their team and we know they will be professionally prepared for this game.

We'll be focused too. We cannot let last season's success remain in our heads. Last season is gone. It is over. Now it is time for this season and all the challenges it brings with it. We have to be ready to fight and be ready to do what is necessary to get all three points tomorrow. We need to make sure we are humble and we stay grounded because anything less than one hundred percent will not be enough. We know that.

The players have done well in pre-season. We had some very difficult games which have taught us plenty of lessons. We have a lot to think about. Ideally we would have had another one or two weeks of pre-season but the situation is what it is. We're fit and focused, that is all we can ask for. All that matters now is our performance tomorrow."

mgriffin2012, I'm not overly concerned about the results, but more the performances. We did quite well in the general play but it was a difference in quality in both boxes which proved to be the difference. Not much that can be done about that though, unfortunately.

Kabongo Hits Half-Century Mark In Style

Kabongo Tshimanga Scored His 50th Oxford City Goal With Table-Topping Strike

Kabongo Tshimanga has written his name in Oxford City Football Club history with his 50th goal for the club, scoring the only goal as Oxford City defeated Macclesfield Town to claim top spot. The Englishman secured the half-century goal in just 59 appearances, an incredible feat for any player.

The headlines will be about Oxford City topping the table with their victory but Kabongo deserves much of the credit for City's dramatic rise in the past year and a bit. Kabongo scored his first Oxford City goal against Gloucester City on 7th August of last year and has not looked back since. The athletic striker found the back of the net 46 times last season, in just 52 appearances, and has scored 4 times in 7 appearances this season.

A well-rounded striker, Tshimanga has struck fear into the hearts of every team he has played against. 12 of Kabongo's 50 goals have come from the penalty spot, suggesting a cold clinical nature that is only born in a player, not bred. The young striker has scored three or more goals in a game no less than five times, terrorising those who he found form against.
