Morning All,

Just a quick brief before I ask for help on how to continue my save.

So I started a save as MK DONS. - Literally 0 money to spend 1st Season but I managed to win the league with a couple of loan signings.

League 2 = Again the board gave me no money to spend, once again Loan signing where my a blessing as I managed to finish 5th and win the play offs.

Championship here we come - I was tipped to be relegated - My board where quite happy that I would be relegated, Again they upped the wage budget but offered me £0 in the transfer budget! So again I am relying on players literally from League 2 along with some Loan signings to keep me in the championship.

20 games into the season I am currently sitting 16th 3 points clear of relegation zone! Yes it is a very tight league.. I have started to spiral into a losing streak losing 5 out of my last 6 games.. I have tried different tactical approaches, from defensive to counter attacks to attacking but it doesn't seem to be helping at all. Could anyone advise what they would do in this situation?

Craig
Hi Craig and welcome :)

As your club's reputation rises, the AI will play more conservative against you. That means they'll likely try a counter or defensive approach.

However, you're already performing above expectations and your roster might not be powerful enough to grind through the Championship.

I'd try a couple of ideas if I were you:
- Look for loaning better players from EPL sides; if you're still into the winter transfer window that is.
- Go with a tried and tested formation from the past, and use as few instructions as possible. The more instructions you add to the mix, the less likely your players will be able to follow.
- Select roles your players are more comfortable with, or at least ones they have sufficient key attributes to pull through.
- Don't go defensive. Switch to counter or balanced away, and slightly attacking at home should normally have better results.
- Use players with better morale and try to raise it with every given chance. Talk to them, use players with poor morale on easy friendlies.

You need one good result to build upon. Avoid over-experimenting while on the verge of relegation; keep things simple.

I hope this helps :)
Stam,

Thank you for the above, I will be sure to give this a go when I get home from work! Some of the steps above I already follow as far as Loaning from EPL goes and playing players in their preferred positions etc.. But I have started to panic slightly and really started to rotate my tactics far too often as the results was a poor one after the other.

I will keep you posted on how this season finishes.

Why does my board never give me money to spend? Do you know any reasons behind this at all? I never spend, all of my wage budgets etc are fine and in tact.

Craig
I might be wrong, but I think the board situation should be related to 2 factors.

1) Chairman's sugar daddy status. I believe the MK Dons one doesn't have such status at all, which means it will be less likely to see an investment from his side; even in case the club has slight profit.

2) Is the club in debt? How is the balance like? Perhaps consider selling some high earners or older players (30+). If your balance is definitely positive, make a request to the board to get a percentage from sales.

No need to panic. And while tactical familiarity is not really important (imo), try to keep things simple. Use your best and most prepared players, or at least those with the highest "determination" attribute. Be supportive in team talks and generally have a positive approach towards your players.

On a side note, you might want to have a look at Keysi Rensie's blog for effective set-piece routines. Sometimes, a goal from a static situation can be decisive and put you in a better position to win.
Hi Stam,

You will be delighted to know I finished my season last night in 18th position!

Time to get rid of the duds and bring in some new faces (on a free) or (on loan).

I can't wait to finish work to get back on it ^^ Surely a 28 year old shouldn't be this excited over a computer game ! :D
