Kalle Koskinen Challenges The World Of Football In This Tale

God this update was a bit messy in terms of the graphic mistakes. Your standards are dropping pal ;) Jokes aside, a good start to the league season and hopefully the start of an excellent season for Koskinen and his side. HJK's poor start will certainly give sides the confidence that they can take advantage and seek to win the title at the end of the season. It has to be remembered though, HJK endured a poor start last campaign - albeit not to the same standard - and recovered to salvage the title, so it's far from over at this early stage.

The cup run continues and another appearance in the final seems to be on the cards. One more win and you'll there again - the cup is probably sick and tired of seeing Peimari in the final by now! Two very winnable league fixtures to begin May will hopefully allow momentum to be built ahead of the remaining fixtures across the month.

Season 2022: May

An Overview Of Peimari United In May 2022

Kalle Koskinen:
"Going into May, we were looking to secure our first trophy of the season. We had a Suomen Cup semi final to play, with the possibility of then going onto the Suomen Cup final at the end of the month. We were looking to add to our trophy cabinet, as well as make good progress in the Veikkausliiga. With Europa League qualifiers to begin in July, we knew that it was important for us to get a good run of form domestically early on, before the real fixture congestion begins."

Transfers

Peimari United Brought In Croatian Wonderkid Silvio Tokic On A Free Transfer

Players In
Silvio Tokic joined at the start of the month. The teenage Croatian midfielder was a youth player for Dinamo Zagreb but left the club for ventures new, and joined us to earn some first-team football at a young age. He was a brilliantly well-rounded midfielder with a great knack for set-pieces. As well as his technical ability, Tokic was also incredibly athletic. His pace and acceleration made him a phenomenal threat in midfield, and he instantly became one of the quickest midfielders in the Veikkausliiga. He joined to become an instant starter, and he was a major coup for the club.

Players Out
Two more players left on loan. First up was Antti Pokela. With Claeys, Santanen and Nielsen in the senior team, Pokela had become fourth-choice up front. He left on loan to get some first-team football, with a view to moving on permanently soon enough. Young striker Ari Mero also left on loan. He was highly rated and had the potential to become a top player in the Veikkausliiga in the future. His loan move was seen as an opportunity for him to put his skills into practice in a competitive senior environment.

Peimari United Enjoyed An Incredibly Successful Month Of May Which Provided Them A Trophy Win

Veikkausliiga
We hosted FC Lahti in our first Veikkausliiga game of the month. Kevin Larsson was on form as he scored a delightful brace for us. We looked strong throughout the game but couldn't score a third goal. Lahti scored late on through Streng to end the game with some hope, but we managed to hold on to all three points come the final whistle.

Our next league game was a visit to AC Oulu. They were tough, as usual. The side showed great tactical discipline and their midfield battled well to make things difficult for us. They took the lead fairly on through Gullstein. Jesper Santanen rescued a point for us with a goal early on in the second half.

The big league game came next. It was Peimari United versus HJK at Liedon keskuskenttä. They were tough, as expected, and showed their true ability by beating us. The goal came early on from HJK's captain Moshtagh Yaghoubi, who scored from range in the opening ten minutes. It was a tough result to take, but we knew that HJK had, by far and wide, the best squad of players in the league.

We then made the short visit to FC Inter Turku in search of redemption following two games where we didn't win. English defender Richard Latham was our hero, as the central defender scored a powerful header from a corner kick routine early on in the game. The three points were vital, and gave the players a much-needed lift ahead of the bulk of the Veikkausliiga season.

SJK were tough, as expected. They had put together an incredible attacking team full of talent capable of scoring from any area on the pitch. Joonas Karlsson scored from left full-back for us just before half-time to give us a promising lead. However, Robinho continued his impressive scoring record for SJK with a deft curling effort on the hour mark to level the game. Akseli Ollila came off the bench for us to net the winner with less than ten minutes remaining, as he got on the end of a deep cross to head the ball into the back of the net.

Our final Veikkausliiga fixture of the month was an away trip to KuPS of Kuopio. The game was very even in the first half, but I was somewhat disappointed with how my players performed in transitional play. I ate their heads off at half-time and they performed much better in the second half. Kevin Larsson opened the scoring early on in the second period, and Jesper Santanen scored a good brace in the final few minutes to entertain our fans with a big win.

Suomen Cup
We played out a tense Suomen Cup semi final against VPS. Midfielder Sasha Popovitch opened the scoring in the second minute as he found himself unmarked in the six yard area to poke home a loose ball. VPS struck back from the penalty spot before the half-hour mark as Bloomfield scored from twelve yards out. Guido Claeys scored the winner in the second half, as the Belgian got on the end of a long pass before calmly sliding the ball beyond VPS' goalkeeper.

HIFK awaited us in the final. The game was played at Töölön jalkapallostadion in front of a fairly large crowd. Jesper Santanen impressed in the game, and he opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark with a half-volley. Mats Köhlert scored a good goal as he cut in from the left before picking out the far corner with a low curling effort. Santanen killed off the game completely with less than ten minutes remaining, prodding home a rebound to secure the Suomen Cup trophy for Peimari United. Ulmanen scored a consolation goal for HIFK in stoppage time, but the Suomen Cup trophy was going home to Peimari United! HOORAH!

Player of the Month

Jesper Santanen Was Peimari United's Star Player During May 2022

Jesper Santanen was our hero in May. The teenage striker moved ahead of Guido Claeys and Rasmus Nielsen in the pecking order for the one striker position with some strong form, and scored five goals in an impressive month. Santanen was crucial in the Suomen Cup final, scoring twice against HIFK to help Peimari Untied to another trophy.

Peimari United Moved Up To The Top Of The League With A Strong Run Of Form

May was much improved for us in the league. We marched all the way to the top of the table, with two points separating us from second placed SJK. Our defensive record was the best in the league, which made for nice reading after having a very shaky defence last year. We were wary of HJK creeping up the table and, with only a third of the season played, we were aware that there was still plenty of work to do. We had made a good start, but we needed to continue to improve to secure the title.

Peimari United Was To Play Six Veikkausliiga Games During The Month Of June

With the Suomen Cup all over, we had just Veikkausliiga football to look forward to during June. With Europa League qualifiers due to start in July, we knew that we had to take advantage of a relatively uncongested month of football. The tricky games were predicted to be against HIFK, RoPS and FC Lahti, but we wanted to win six from six. We needed to be at our very best.

Comment Section

ScottT | We can fully expect to see HJK rise up the table again. As for the cup, it belongs to us again :)

Peimari To Face Slavia Praha In Europa League Qualifiers

Peimari United Have Been Drawn Against SK Slavia Praha In UEFA Europa League Qualifiers

16/02/2022

Finnish Veikkausliiga side Peimari United have been drawn against Czech Republic side SK Slavia Praha in the first round of UEFA Europa League qualifiers. The five-times Czech champions will host the first leg of the qualifiers on Thursday 7th July at Eden in Prague, Czech Republic, before the return leg at Kupittaan jalkapallostadion in Turku, Finland.

Founded in 1892, Slavia Praha are regarded as one of Czech Republic's top sides. Slavia enjoyed their first taste of success in the 1990s, winning the Czech top flight in 1996. Four more league victories followed, with Slavia being crowned champions of Czech Republic in 2008, 2009, 2017 and 2020. Slavia also have five Czech Cup victories to their name, having won the competition in 1997, 1999, 2002, 2018 and 2021.

Slavia Praha have had a good history in European competition. The club's first appearance in European competition was back in the 1974-1975 season in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. Slavia's best European performance came as they reached the semi final stage of the UEFA Cup in the 1995-1996 season where they were narrowly beaten by French side Bordeaux. Slavia Praha reached the fourth qualifying round of the Europa League last season, where they were felled at the final hurdle by Turkish side İstanbul Başakşehir F.K.

SK Slavia Praha Are One Of Czech Republic's Top Clubs And Have A Good Reputation In Europe

Slavia entered the UEFA Europa League qualifiers through qualification from the league. Slavia finished in second place in the league behind rivals FC Viktoria Plzeň, with Sparta Praha rounding up the top three in the league. Slavia Praha also finished as runners-up in the Czech Cup last season, with Sparta Praha winning the final.

Slavia Praha have a squad dotted with top quality. Former German international wide player Karim Bellarabi has excelled as a right back for the side, forming an incredible partnership on the right with highly rated Czech winger Vaclav Cerny. Former Italy international Andrea Poli and current Czech international Josef Husbauer have formed a formidable combination in midfield.

The winner over the two legs will face either AS Trenčín of Slovakia or FK Vojvodina of Serbia in the second qualifying round. The winner of SK Slavia Praha and Peimari United's tie will play the first leg of the second qualifying round away from home.

Peimari United will play their home games in the UEFA Europa League at Kupittaan jalkapallostadion, the home stadium of FC Inter Turku and TPS of Turku, Finland. This is due to minimum capacity requirements for the competition, which their current home stadium does not fill. Kupittaan jalkapallostadion has a capacity of 9,372, with a seating capacity of 8,072. Peimari's new 'home' stadium for European games is located just 25 kilometres from their home town of Paimio, and just twenty-five minutes by car.

Peimari United unveiled a new third kit for the season, to be used as an away kit in European competition and when neither their home or away kits suffice for domestic play. The kit will have no main sponsor for European games, with main shirt sponsor Supercell unable to secure an agreement with the football club to appear on the team's kit. However, Supercell will appear on the new third kit for domestic games.

A tough draw to kick off the run in the Europa League, but with Kalle in charge, anything is possible. A shame that you won't be playing the home matches at your own stadium, hopefully this will speed up the construction for when you qualify next season!

Form has certainly improved and a terrific opponent will be welcomed in the opening round of Europa League qualification. It looks an exciting time to be a Peimari supporter!

Season 2022: June

An Overview Of Peimari United In June 2022

Kalle Koskinen:
"Having made an incredibly bright start to the season, including winning the Suomen Cup last in May, we were looking forward to really cementing our title-chasing aspirations by putting on a good performance throughout the month of June. We had just six league games to play, and we were determined to get as many points on the board as possible before the beginning of our European journey in the UEFA Europa League qualifiers in July."

Peimari United Recorded A Perfect Run Of Six Wins From Six In Veikkausliiga Action In June

Our first fixture of the month was a home game against FC Ilves. The Tampere-based side came to our temporary home ground and proved to be very strong in defence. Jesper Santanen scored the only goal of the game just before half time, giving us a priceless win as we walked away with a 1-0 victory.

Next up was a trip to HIFK, who were expected to give us a proper game. We proved too strong for them, however, with a final twenty minute burst from us enough to see us over the line. Jesper Santanen scored from the penalty spot with twenty minutes to go before adding a second goal of his own and Peimari's with minutes remaining. Sasha Popovitch rounded up proceedings with a close-range finish, giving us a solid 3-0 win.

TPS then came to visit us at our temporary home in Lieto, as we filled out Liedon keskuskenttä with a capacity crowd. Mats Köhlert scored the only goal of the game, cutting in from the left before finishing low into the far corner, giving us all three points as we continued our winning streak with another 1-0 win.

A mid-month trip to the north of Finland (yay....) to face RoPS in Rovaniemi followed. They were known for their physical and tactical astuteness, and provided a tough challenge for us. We kept a fourth clean sheet in as many games this month, as we plucked a somewhat fortunate win due a Lucas Villela penalty goal in the first half to secure a 1-0 win.

We returned, thankfully, to playing at Liedon keskuskenttä as VPS came to town. We were on hot form as we scored three times in a 3-0 win. Jarno Seppälä opened the scoring from range early on, and Mats Köhlert doubled our lead just after half-time. Guido Claeys scored a third goal for us with a bullet header, with just fifteen minutes remaining, to give us an impressive win.

Our last game of the month was a trip to FC Lahti, as we looked to finish June on an incredible high. Lucas Villela scored the only goal of the game early on as we secured another 1-0 victory, ending the month with six wins and, even more impressive, six clean sheets.

Niko Lehtinen Was Peimari United's Star Player During June 2022

Niko Lehtinen was our hero in June. The teenage full-back became a regular this season, following a successful spell at SalPa Salo last year. He was brought in to our youth team back in 2020, and has since developed into a wonderfully-talented player. He is considered as one of the most exciting defensive prospects in the Veikkausliiga, and has been heavily involved in Finland's U21s team.

Peimari United Moved Seven Points Clear At The Top Of The Table

June was incredible for us. We moved seven points clear at the top of the Veikkausliiga, with our sensational defensive record to thank. SJK and HJK trailed well behind us in second and third place, respectively, as we looked solid at the halfway mark. With sixteen games remaining, we still had plenty of work to do, but we knew that we had put ourselves in a promising position. We prayed to avoid another slip-up.

Peimari United Had The Excitement Of Europa League Qualifiers In July

July was set to be an exciting month. In terms of Veikkausliiga play, we were first up against AC Oulu at home. A big trip to HJK followed, and we were hoping to earn our revenge against a team who had beaten us several times previously. Games against FC Inter Turku, SJK, KuPS and FC Ilves followed. The main excitement was to be the UEFA Europa League qualifiers against Slavia Praha. First was an away leg in Prague on the 7th, with the home leg to follow a week later.

TheLFCFan | Slavia will certainly prove to be a challenge, but we want to be involved in these kind of games. Hopefully we win.
ScottT | Certainly a terrific opponent, and a challenge we relish!

Peimari Stun Slavia In Prague

Peimari United Were 4-2 Victors Against Slavia Praha At Eden

07/07/2022

Finnish Veikkausliiga side Peimari United had a brilliant European debut as they defeated Slavia Praha 4-2 at Eden in Prague. The fixture was the first leg of the teams' UEFA Europa League first qualifying round tie, with Peimari United now carrying a strong advantage heading into next week's second leg. German attacker Mats Köhlert was the star of the show, scoring a brace as his side marched to an unexpected, but deserved, victory against the Czech Republic's second best team of last season.

The fixture against Slavia Praha marked the first time that Peimari United have competed in European competition, and there are few better stages to do it at then at Eden in Prague. An attendance of 16,099 witnessed the game as last season's Finnish Veikkausliiga runners-up started the game as the stronger of the two teams. The visitors did indeed score the opening goal of the game, with highly-rated Belgian teenager Guido Claeys scoring for Peimari United in the second minute. The young striker got his head on the end of a wide Mats Köhlert free-kick, sending the ball into the goal at the near post to give his team an invaluable away goal.

Peimari United didn't have to wait too long to score a second goal, with Mats Köhlert turning goal scorer. After a spell of possession inside Slavia Praha's third of the pitch, left back Jukka Virtanen sent a threatening cross into the penalty area. The ball was met by the head of central defender Jakub Jugas, but the rebound fell kindly to Köhlert inside the box, who took one touch to steady himself before leathering a low effort beyond the reach of the helpless Jan Soucek in Slavia's goal.

A good start turned into a fairy tale opening first half for Peimari United, who scored a third goal in the twentieth minute. From a Slavia Praha corner, Guido Claeys led a fast-paced Peimari United counter attack. The young striker got as far as being in line with Slavia Praha's box while on the right wing, before cutting back to the open Kevin Larsson on the edge of Slavia's box. The Finnish attacker teed up the onrushing Moussa Faye who only needed one touch to send the ball into the far corner, giving Peimari United a truly astonishing lead.

Mats Köhlert Scored A Brace And Assisted Another In A Star Performance

Slavia Praha found a way back into the game in the first half, albeit with a huge slick of luck. Vaclav Cerny had latched onto a rebound from a Slavia free-kick inside Peimari's penalty area but saw his effort parried away by Tornike Dzadzamia when one-on-one. However, the ball ricocheted off the outstretched leg of Peimari midfielder Eero Hyökyvirta, and trickled into the back of Peimari's goal to hand Slavia a lucky goal.

Cerny was central to Slavia Praha's second goal of the game, as he earned his side a penalty in the second half. Niko Lehtinen fouled the winger just inside the penalty area, handing the home side a way back into the game. Central defender Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui stepped up and was composed with a low finish to the right to further cut his side's deficit. Through unforced errors from Peimari United, Slavia Praha had fought their way back to be within touching distance of the visitors.

With twenty-five minutes remaining, Peimari United's Mats Köhlert stepped up to put the game beyond doubt with his second goal of the game. It came from a counter attack led by Kevin Larsson, who dribbled the ball for over forty yards before picking out Jarno Seppälä just outside Slavia's box. The young midfielder poked a delicate pass into the path of Mats Köhlert who fired a first-time effort into the roof of Slavia's net, to put the game beyond doubt.

Peimari United Scored Four Away Goals In The First Leg

Kalle Koskinen:
"I don't think too many people would have predicted us to win with the scoreline it was! We played against a team full of senior internationals, and ex-internationals, and we came away with a very important win. When we saw the team they put out, we knew we had to be at our very best, and we were at our best for most of the game. We knew what they were capable of and they showed out when we lost our concentration for a few seconds just twice in the game. We can be delighted with our performances and the result, however, it was a very good debut for us in European football.

The tie is far from over. If we can score four goals in ninety minutes, then so can they. Okay, the situation is that they have to come to Finland and score at least three goals. If we concede less than three goals, we go through. It will not be that simple though. We will still need to do all the right things, play our game as well as possible and win the individual and collective battles, so we cannot rest on our laurels for one second. We can celebrate this victory at the end of the season, but for now we just take a small break tonight and tomorrow morning, and then get back into the flow of things. That is how football works."

Comment Section

TheLFCFan | I've been very impressed by our defensive strength. A major improvement upon last season, where conceding goals was ultimately our undoing.
ScottT | The run of form has continued with the player performing exceptionally in the first leg. Still plenty to do, but a good start has been made.

Previous Update: #104 - Season 2022: June
Next Update: #106 - Peimari Stroll To Europa League Progression
An incredible night that won't be forgotten in a hurry for those associated with Peimari. Slavia Prague are no slouches when it comes to the pedigree they possess in European football. Four away goals could prove to be vastly beneficial when the two meet in Finland. However, "home" advantage will already serve Peimari well, I feel. Finland must be a tough place to go for many of Europe's sides.

A great first leg there! 4 away goals is massive and it should hopefully be more than enough to see you through now! A great start to the clubs European adventure!

Peimari Stroll To Europa League Progression

Peimari United Were 3-1 Winners Against Slavia Praha At Kupittaan jalkapallostadion In EL Second Leg

14/07/2022

Finnish Veikkausliiga side Peimari United signed their name the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League after beating SK Slavia Praha 3-1 in their second leg at Kupittaan jalkapallostadion in Turku, Finland, to stroll to a 7-3 aggregate victory against the Czech Republic-based side. Mats Köhlert and Moussa Faye were the stars of the show for Peimari United, scoring a combined three goals in the second leg to wipe the floor with Slavia.

It was a positive early start by Peimari United at Eden which saw them take a strong lead in their first leg, and the Finnish side produced another brilliant start in their second leg in Turku, with Mats Köhlert opening the scoring in the fourth minute. The German left-sided inside forward got on the end of a deep cross from striker Guido Claeys and volleyed the ball first-time into the roof of the net, giving Peimari United a commanding lead on aggregate.

Mats Köhlert Scored An Excellent Volley To Open The Scoring

Senegalese midfielder Moussa Faye scored in Czech Republic a week ago, and added his name to the score sheet again as he doubled Peimari United's lead before half-time. Niko Lehtinen and Kevin Larsson combined for Peimari United down the right-hand side before centering the ball to Moussa Fate on the edge of the box. The former Fiorentina youth player kept his first-time shot low, as he sent the ball sizzling into the back of Slavia's net.

If there was to be any hope for the visitors in the tie, it was when central defender Jakub Jugas scored a goal against the run of play, just before half-time. Miralem Sulejmani's deep free-kick seemed to float in the air on its way to the back post where Jugas was on hand to poke the ball beyond Tornike Dzadzamia in Peimari United's goal. The goal meant Slavia still needed to score three more, but it was a better position than what they were in previously.

Any chance that Slavia Praha had of a comeback was squashed just before the hour mark as Moussa Faye scored his second goal of the game. The flying Finnish full back Niko Lehtinen went on a barnstorming run into Slavia's half before cutting back to Jarno Seppälä on the edge of the area. The teenage midfielder teed up Faye, who picked out the bottom left corner with a first-time drive, similar to his first goal.

The fans at the Kupittaan jalkapallostadion in Turku, Peimari United's home for European competition, were certainly treated to the spectacle. An official attendance of 3,482 was, by far, the greatest ever recorded by Peimari United, and the fans present were full of joy when the final whistle was sounded. Despite all the odds being stacked against them before last week's first leg, Peimari United had made their first steps in European football with some success.

Peimari United Outscored A Strong Slavia Praha Over Two Legs

Kalle Koskinen:
"I think we performed even better today than we did last week. We looked a lot more controlled and more disciplined, and hardly set a foot wrong. The credit has to go to the players for that. Moussa (Faye) was lethal with his shooting and Jarno (Seppälä) alongside him did incredibly well to control the game with his passing. The game was won by our midfield, but the rest of the team was superb too.

We can now look forward to the second qualifying round. We don't get too much of a rest because it already starts next week, and we will have to play away from home. I don't know who we got yet, I haven't had a chance to catch up on other results. Whoever we play, we can expect a tough game, but we know that we can achieve anything when we push ourselves to our best. We just have to keep playing at a high level and continue to improve with every single game and training session."

Who Do Peimari United Play Next?

Peimari United Will Face FK Vojvodina Of Serbia In The Second Qualifying Round

Another tough opponent awaited Peimari Untied, as they progressed to the second qualifying round. FK Vojvodina were 5-1 aggregate winners against Slovakian side AS Trenčín and will host the first leg of the tie next Thursday (21st July) at Karadjordje stadium in Novi Sad, Serbia. The return leg will be played at Kupittaan jalkapallostadion in Turku, Finland, on the following Thursday (28th July).

FK Vojvodina have never won their own domestic league, and indeed qualified for this season's Europa League qualifiers by finishing in third place in the league. Their most exciting European performance came in 1998/1999, when they played in an Intertoto Cup final where they lost to German side Werder Bremen. FK Vojvodina have never qualified for the group stage of the Europa League, or Champions League, and were knocked out in the third qualifying round last season by Belgian side Club Brugge. Vojvodina will be looking to appear in the third round again, but will need to get past high-flying Peimari United first.

Comment Section

ScottT | We have to make Finland a place of nightmares for our European opposition, and we have made the first step in doing so by defeating a very strong Slavia Praha side.
TheLFCFan | In the end, we outclassed them completely. Onwards and upwards in this adventure.

Simply incredible to beat Slavia and is testament to how far you have come with Peimari. Vojvodina will be another tough test but Koskinen's lads have proven that they have what it takes to bring down good teams.
