Hi
I recently purchased a new Sony Vaio laptop with Windows 7.
I transferred all my FM10 files over to my new laptop - including my Genie (1.11 build 116 with no ads), which had been working fine both on my old XP desktop and XP laptop.
Now when I load my saved games and search, the names, nationalities and ometimes positions of the players in the database show up as seemingly random names from places ike Vanuatu!
Anyone else had this?
More importantly, anyone able to tell me how to fix it?
I've tried reinstalling from a newly downloaded and installed zip file and inserting a copy of the 'no-ads' key file but that doesn't seem to work.
I've also tried newly downloading the 'with ads' version and, bizarrely, that seems to work ok...
well the onley similar problem i've had is players, mostly brazilian, who show the wrong names.. i guess it's related to the diffrence between common names and actual names... otherwise there has been no problems... i use the with-add version btw
have the same problem, have just copied my game over to my new computer. installed everything from scratch on my new computer and when i try to load my game game in genie scout, only 8 teams are shown as english. all teams in manchester are from c.i.s. and teams from london are from macedonia. and plays in strange leagues....

I sent Eugene an email about this issue - no answer yet.
Was your old PC XP or Vista and your new one on a different O/S?

My old pc was with vista, new has win7. But that shouldn't change the db in my game, or even how the program reads the db (i'd guess).
I think you need a new key?
The unique-id should be different on the new operating system I guess, and that is why the key might not be working.
Hey Stam - thanks for the post.
A new key might be it - the old one works fine on at least 3 separate XP pcs.
It's just the new Win 7 laptop where thinmgs go weird.
Any advice on how to get a new key? I mailed Eugene a couple of times already - I don't want to bug him too much but i'd really like my no-ads Genie back!

I'm afraid Eugene is the only one to provide a key for you mate, I guess just be patient and use the regular ad-supported version until then.
I haven't spoken with him in a while, so I'm not sure what he's up to at the moment.
Not heard anything from Eugene so I guess it'll just have to be the 'with ads' version.
Bit annoying though as I hate the ads and Genie worked fine (and still does) on my XP desktop!
:O_o
I don't blame you, ads are annoying indeed.
He's not the easiest guy to get in touch with I guess. Send him another email mate, maybe he keeps forgetting to reply to your previous two.
hi guys.
i have noticed that in a XP computer (so i think the problem is not about windows vista or 7), but if you look closer, its only the name that is wrong and if i'm not mistaken ocour in new regens, but if you look for that player in that club, by his age, value or position, he is there.
My guess is that one of the updates changed the way some regens are created and Eugene did not noticed that.
@ibox:
can you see the rest of the results with proper names?
Eugene has now sorted this.
it's because each no-ads key is linked to each individual computer's 'unique reference number' (which you can find by looking on under donate in fmgenie).
thing is, if you buy 'no ads' genie and then get a new pc, you'll need to get a new key from Eugene every time - or stick with the ads.
