Update #73: Season 16 | Frustrating Start

Season 16 with Palermo started with a positive result. A 2-0 win at home over Atalanta is result we expected. Both our center-backs scored, Iglesias and Lopez. We really dominated Atalanta as they struggled to create any worthwhile chances in the game. It was a great start to the Serie A season.

We then went on to lose 1-0 to Brescia, away from home. This game was really frustrating as we dominated possession and created enough chances to get a least a point from the match but it wasn't to be.

To make things worse we lost our next game, 2-1 at home against Virtus Entella. Bayer scored his first goal of the season, but once again we didn't take our chances. Entella are managed by former Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus and are in the Europa League this season.

A poor start to the season, although the two games we lost, we played really well. It will surely only be a matter of time before the goals start flying in and results turn in our favour.

ScottT - I know I should have tried to sell Sorensen, but I used him a lot in the second half of last season. The Italy job is an exciting opportunity as they haven't won a major trophy since the World Cup triumph in 2006. But there is a lot of talent in the squad and I believe I can bring glory to Italy!
TheLFCFan - I really didn't want to let Sorensen go but it was out of my control. We still have the main man Bayer, and we have English striker Vaughaun who I spent a decent amount on to sign from Bournemouth, so this season will be his opportunity to impress.
Update #74: Season 16 | Winning Ways

This season we play in the Europa League. After succesfully winning with Europa Conference last season, I am aiming to push on and reach at least the semi-finals of the Europa League this season. In the group stages we will face Everton, Bursaspor and Wacker Innsbruck. We are favourites to top the group, but Everton will be a tough challenge. Tottenham won the Europa League last season and the Final will be played in Portugal this year.

Europa League Group Stage

After losing 2 of our first 3 league games this season, we needed to start picking up points fast. September began with a 2-1 victory over Cagliari. Daniel Bayer was the standout player, scoring both our goals. We then played Sassuolo away from home. They have become one of the top teams in Italy over the past few seasons with Mikel Arteta as their manager and some quality players. However, we managed to win 2-1, goals from our left back Chopko, and under-rated midfielder El Badaoui.

After winning two league games in a row we had our first Europa League game. Everton came to Italy and we absolutely pumped them. I rotated the squad, and our South African center-back, Madubanya scored two goals, as well as Bayer scoring another brace. We ran out 4-0 winners, playing a 4-4-2 diamond seemed to work really well and allow us to create more opportunities going forward.

The next league match was away against Hellas Verona. They aren't the toughest team we will face, and we comfortably won 3-0. Bayer opened the scoring and then El Badaoui added two more goals to his tally this season. Our next match with in the cup against Napoli. Bayer was unstoppable again scoring a brace to beat Napoli 2-0 away from home and knock them out of the cup early on. Napoli were by far the more create side in the game, creating 5x the amount of shots we had. Although our possession based style of football prevailed. This was the first time we have beat Napoli since 2030, 4 seasons previous.

The final game of the month was a Serie A match against Lazio, who have always been a tough opponent to play. However, we played extremely well, bossing possession and creating chances. Our dominance payed off as we were awarded a late penalty in the 92nd minute and Bayer stepped up to bang it in. To my disbeleif we were awarded another penalty int the 95th minute! Bayer once again finished it off, to seal a famous 2-0 win over Lazio and cap off a perfect month.

Not only have the results improved this month but we are really dominating most of the games we are playing. Bayer is bang on form and looking like the world-class player we know he can be. El Badaoui is also playing really well in the CAM position behind Bayer and Vaughuan who has struggled for goals but contributing in other ways.

September Results

After an amazing month we sit in 2nd place in the league after 7 games played. Inter Milan, unsurprisingly are top of the league.

League Table

My first game with Italy was against Belgium. Looking at the players I had available in the squad I decided to try and play 4-2-4, with a focus on getting the ball to our quality pacy wingers. Although we had quality and created a lot of chances, we couldn't score and drew 0-0.

In the second match we played Bulgaria and won the match 4-0. Tagliani scored a brace, he is Inter Milan's main striker this season and an incredible talent at just 21.

The start of my journey with Italy was decent and I am hoping I can bring success to the nation and win at least one major competition. Italy haven't won the World Cup since 2006 and haven't won the EURO's since 1968. I have a quality squad and the desire to make it happen! Stay tuned for more Italy action..
That's more like it! A fantastic start to life in the Europa League and... You beat Lazio! :O

Get in! Everything is turning around finally. Bayer has been brilliant and the team really seem to be coming together. Second is a great place to be and continuing to put pressure on Inter, hopefully they will slip up at some stage. Italy has started off well, a point against Belgium and a dominant win over Bulgaria is positive.

Update #75: Season 16 | The Diamond

Last month the performances and results really improved and we have started to gain some momentum in the league. October began with another positive win. We beat Bursaspor away from home 3-1 in the Europa League. I have mainly been playing the 4-4-2 narrow diamond and it is working really well. Our first Serie A game of Octobr was at home against Juventus. Kane Talley gave us the lead after 17 minutes but Juventus equalized just 3 minutes later. Our defender Iglesias scored to give us the lead in the 59th minute and we ended up winning the match in a tight contest. Iglesias has developed into a world-class defender and always poses a danger from set pieces.

The next match was a milestone in my career. 700 games in management with Palermo is a huge achievement and there has been so many highs and lows in the Palermo adventure. I was really hoping I could cap off my 700th game with a win against Fiorentina.

Against Fiorentina we were dominant throughout. Chris Vaughan has been playing well this season alongside Bayer but has rarely scored. But it was him who scored the only goal of the game to continue our winning streak.

We went on to play Wacker in the Europa League and Vaughan finally started banging goals in scoring a hat-trick in a 4-1 win. The final fixture of the month was an away game in the league against Parma. Our Serbian midfielder Maric scored a brace to win the game 2-1 and cap off another perfect month. 5 games this month and 5 wins see us 2nd in the league equal on points with Inter Milan. There goal difference is a lot higher, currently at +21 whereas our goal difference is +10. Inter Milan have an incredible team and beat Perugia 10-0.. We will continue to try and challenge them and push as high as we can this season.

With Italy I spent a long time really looking at a lot of different players and deciding who I want to call up to the national team. I am keen to pursue playing 4-2-4 but also will use 4-2-3-1 against tougher opponents. Italy faced Holland in the Nations League and we smashed them 5-1. Zirkzee scored the only goal for Holland, but our superstar striker Mattia Franzoso scored a hat-trick. Last international break he was injured, but now he is fit and in the squad I quickly realized just how good he was.

Franzoso reminds me of Bayer. He is 6'8" and an absolute goal machine. He currently has 51 goals in 48 caps for Italy, so one thing I would like to do as Italy boss is help him to become Italy's record goalscorer. Currently Eddie Salcedo holds the record with 76 goals. The Dortmund striker Franzoso is 26 and should be able to catch that with ease. I am going to build the squad around Franzoso and let him lead the line in every game we play.

The next match in the Nations League was against Belgium who we drew 0-0 with in our first Italy fixture. This time though we really took our chances and won the game 4-1. Franzoso scored another hat-trick, scoring 6 goals in just 2 games! I am so excited about the potential we have with Italy to achieve so much in major international competitions.

ScottT - It felt so good to beat Lazio! Especially scoring so late in the game :D
TheLFCFan - Things are looking a lot brighter now. We wouldn't be the team we are without Bayer, but other players are really beginning to improve and shine too. Hopefully we can keep the good form going. Italy started well and seem to be getting better every game we play.
The fantastic form continues! A tremendous set of results again. Focusing on Italy, Franzoso is some striker. He is bringing in the goals against some top opposition. Frightening!

An excellent beginning in the league and Franzoso looks ready to break all international records :P

After 19 seasons with Palermo... the year is 2038, and I have won my first Serie A title! Inter Milan have been dominant over the years and I managed to beat them to secure the league title. This save has had many highs and lows but this is without doubt the biggest high. My challenge now is to secure the league title again next season and progress further in the Champions League. My U18's have won the league 4 years in a row and my U20's have won the UEFA Youth League 3 seasons in a row. Promising times for Palermo! Time to sell on some key players and bring through the youth. This is certainly my biggest achievement on any FM. So so so happy :D P.S. Hope you enjoy all the pictures: league table, records, key players, awards and stats :)

Massive congratulations. Your persistence has paid off!

Incredible work mate. We have seen you thinking of packing it in a number of time but as Scott says, persistence pays off, congratulations.

Cheers guys! Absolutely loving the save now. Just won my second title in a row and the club finances are going through the roof :D

Congratulations!
Hi Guys, I have played FM as a Palermo for so many years now - I got it bad as a couple of years ago I even started visiting Sicily at least once a year to take in a game. I have never really gotten into the downloads and editor side of FM, can you recommend which Leagues pack you found useful for your respective saves?

I actually went to the extent of playing as Sicula Leonzio for a season and awaiting Palermo to get promoted and their Coach fired so I could resign and take over. This will never do, I want to start from Serie D and do it properly.

Would appreciate any recommendations in making it as authentic as possible. Great to see so many enjoying taking the Rosanero back to the top
