In all my saves I have won almost everything with 4231. The 4231 is my go-to tactic, BUT I’m tired of playing counter, pass into space and run at defence football. I know that’s whats really effective in FM20, but it just bores me now.
So can someone help me with some inspiration?

Formation must be 4231. But it must be a more latin style of football meaning slower tempo at a lot of creativity and a lot of goals chances. Thanks!
Start with an attacking mentality but a much lower tempo.

Your players will still be attacking in their decision making but they will take more time about it so you will/should have more possession.

You could also highlight work ball into box in the final third but be aware this is often best used when you are the better side.

Thanks. Some questions
1. Team width?
2. Run at defence?
3. Pass into space?
4. Counter in transition?
5. High pressure?
1. Team width? I'd say narrow for tika taka as you will be making short passes, but this also depends on your formation and roles to an extent.

2. Run at defence? No and...
3. Pass into space? No, both of these are anti-possession instructions.

4. Counter in transition? I'd say not, no. I would leave neither Counter or Hold Shape highlighted as we don't want to rule out the counter completely. With an attacking mentality the team will counter when the opportunity arises anyway. You could highlight Hold Shape but with a low tempo as well you are arguably hindering yourself in always denying a counter opportunity.

5. High pressure? Yes, we want to get the ball back as quick as possible for the most possession.

Have you tried this type of tactic with any succes?
Nope, mainly because the ME supports a faster overwhelming tempo.

I can see it controlling possession quite well, especially against defensive AI, but ultimately struggling to create clear cut chances.
