Jesse Lingard should consider a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer cannot guarantee him game time at Old Trafford.

That’s according to Red Devils legend Andy Cole, who believes the 28-year-old will want to play regular football at this stage of his career.

Lingard has struggled to break back into the United team following the January arrival of Bruno Fernandes and his chances appear even slimmer following the signing of Donny van de Beek from Ajax.

However, the England international reminded Solskjaer of his undoubted qualities on Tuesday night with a strong showing against Luton in the Carabao Cup.

After a flurry of loan moves across the country, Lingard finally earned a regular spot in Jose Mourinho’s team in 2017 and became an integral part of Gareth Southgate’s side which went to the World Cup semi-finals a year later.

And with the Tottenham boss reportedly keen on a reunion in north London, Cole suggested a change in scenery could be beneficial for the attacking midfielder.

“I think everyone has a role to play, but it’s to what extent you want to play that role,” Cole told talkSPORT.com.

“I’m sure he wants to be a starter and I think Jesse would be the first one to admit it’s going to be difficult to start week, week out.

“When you’re at that age, you have to turn around to yourself and ask ‘Do you want to be coming off the bench or do you want to be starting week in, week out?’

“So I think if Jesse wants to start or Manchester United are consider selling him, or whatever the situation is, the two parties will no doubt make a decision on it.”
