Manchester United Announce Son Heung-Min

Man Utd have today sensationally announced Son Heung-Min has signed for the club with Juan Mata going in the other direction. It is understood that United have paid £67,000,000 but only £21,000,000 upfront and the rest in performance related pay.

Quite how Man Utd have pulled this off is amazing said Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports News. Son is an amazing signing and this finally does announce United as a potential top four side.

Son played 160 times in five seasons for Spurs, scoring 53 times. It is Son's all round game that makes him a game changer for United though because his link up play, work rate, technique, finishing and his off the ball movement is going to be vital for United this season.

Mata moves to Spurs as part of the deal

Son's arrival means that Juan Mata ends his 10 year stay at United and moves to Spurs in the hope of finding more first team football. Some people would say that Mata's time at United has been up and down but the majority of people think that it was time to move.

We sold Paul (Pogba) and that gave us the money to get the Son deal moving, it was close to collapsing at one point but I am ecstatic to get this over the line. Son will give this team everything and will hopefully help the club challenge for the title. Keane explained

I am very pleased to move to a club steeped in history said Son. I was made to feel wanted in the meetings I had with the manager, chief executive and with the captain. I can not wait to get started here

Scott - I think they will be a improvement
Son is a huge signing mate and even though IRL Pogba has been meh still surprised to see you sell him in game
Quite a high-profile signing. Let's see whether it works out for Son in Manchester.

United Sign Midfield Malian International

Manchester United today announced the signing of Diadie Samassekou from Hoffenheim for a fee reported £9,000,000. The midfielder joins on a contract worth £54,000 for 5 years.

Samassekou is deemed a legend at Salzburg and is a well-known name across Europe and Africa. The 24-year-old was born in Bamako, Mali and can play in both defensive midfield and central midfield which is what Roy Keane has been looking for to compliment Van de Beek and Fernandes.

Samassekou started his career in Mali with Academia JMG Mali, he then moved to Real Bamako. Samassekou then moved to FC Liefering but lasted one season before Salzburg came calling. Diadie performed well and stayed at Salzburg for three full seasons before moving to Germany to play for Hoffenheim.

During his time at Salzburg, Samassekou won the Austrian Premier League in 2017, 2018 and 2019. He also won the Austrian F.A Cup 2017 and 2019 where his performances were deemed to be integral to the Austrian side's success.

It is understood that when United found out he was unsettled they could see what a cheap deal it would be and pounced.

De Gea IS on his way out with teams interested

This is the last of our business, said Keane. We are looking at David (de Gea) leaving due to Chelsea, Real Madrid and FC Bayern looking at him and he has no future with United. We have played two games and Dean has done amazing (more on the games later). Diadie has climbed through the African league's, got noticed by Salzburg, became a Salzburg legend and had a good season in Germany last season so yes we are very pleased to have him.
A decent signing. Question marks over whether he is, again, the calibre of player United need though. Looking forward to seeing how these players perform.
Always like a good No1VillaFan story. Shocked you haven't signed Naismith yet but looking forward to seeing how you do

What A Start: September Update

What an absolute blinding start from Manchester United this month, five games, five victories and in the Premier League just the one goal conceded. Keane's controversial 3-3-3-1 formation has for now worked. There has been a slight tweak to it though with Aaron Bin-Wasaka playing in central defence but as yet no appearance for Alex Telles.

It has been a good start and with the club progressing to the fifth round of the Carabao Cup aswell, for now it has been a great start. Redmond and Son have both looked good, Redmond has started every game so far under Roy Keanes management.

Premier League

Wolves 1 - 2 Man Utd

Martial (22, 42)

This was the first competitive match with a Keane formation and it went really well! Redmond and Son linked up extremely well and Martial cutting inside all the time cause Wolves no end of issues so when he opened the scoring on 22 minutes it was not a surprise. Rashford was pulling the defenders all over the place which allowed Martial to pick up a Redmond through ball and made it 1-0, Martial then scored again 20 minutes later cutting inside to a Van de Beek early cross to emphatically head home for 2-0.

Despite Boly getting a goal back, Henderson had the game covered with Maguire and McTominay standing out at the back.

Man Utd 3 - 0 Fulham

Cavani (20)
Fernandes (65)
James (80)

So second game in and Keane rested players, Rashford dropped back to attacking midfield, Cavani came in for his debut and Danayer dropped to the bench for Baily. Van de Beek was also rested for Fred.
This however was the game that Keane new Fernandes was going to be near on un-droppable. Fulham were absolutely useless and I mean utter junk. McTominay spend more time in the Fulham half than his own half. Son delivered the cross for Cavani to score on his debut and after that it was the story of wasted opportunities for United. Rashford missed a couple, Cavani could have had a hattrick and it was one of them that you expected Fulham to break and score a goal they did not deserve.

In the second half Greenwood, James and de Beek were introduced. It was a James ball through to Fernandes that gave United the space they deserved as he drilled it home. Fulham then appeared to just give up and when James hit a delightful 20 yarder in the 80th minute, it was all over.

Leeds 0 - 4 Man Utd

Martial (1)
Van de Beek (13)
Fernandes (pen 19, 32)

The Leeds match again saw a few changes with Cavani dropping back to the bench for Rashford to go upfront and Martial back on the left of the attacking four with Redmond and Son. The big change was Aaron Bin-Wasaka to come into the defensive three. Henderson was attempting to carry on from an incredible start for United this season. Denayer and Bailly were only on the bench.

It took United 43 seconds to go 1-0 up after a long diagonal ball over the top for Martial to hit home. 12 minutes later and Van de Beek fired home from the edge of the area to make it 2-0 and Leeds were shell shocked! It got a lot worse for them too as in the 19th minute VAR spotted a foul on Rashford and after the referee looked at the monitor a penalty was awarded which obviously Fernandes slotted home. and just after half an hour it was 4-0 as Fernandes smashed home a free kick.
Leeds fought after that but Man Utd had them sussed out and they hardly got a sniff to make it 4 wins out of 4 for Keane and his United men

Carabao Cup

Man Utd 1 - 0 Burnley 3rd Round

Redmond (66)

This match, although it will be known as the game Redmond scored his first goal for the club will be that much special for Charlie McCann, who at 19 years old was given his competitive debut and gave a good account of himself. Keane spoke very highly of McCann after the game. He was excellent today and this is why he is now training with the first team. He set Redmond up for the goal with an excellent early cross and should be very proud of himself.

Liverpool 3 - 3p Man Utd

Fernandes (pen 14)
Martial (17)
Rashford (79)

There was no experimenting by Keane it this match apart from the fact Greenwood started with Son dropping to the bench. Liverpool did experiment though and United nearly lost this match. Fernandes and Martial put United 2-0 very quickly but Liverpool fought back to equalise and in the second half they went ahead which is something that Manchester United had not experienced this season but after Liverpool rather stupidly gave away a free kick, Fernandes floated it in for Rashford to head home and we went to penalties.

Henderson, who again had a fine game saved two pens as United progressed through to the fifth round.

League Table

So although it is early days, United are top and have scored the most goals in the first three games but have only conceded 1 goal (against Wolves), Chelsea and Burnley 6 sides to not have lost a game yet (Liverpool, Man City and Everton are the other three sides).

West Ham, Wolves and West Brom are bottom of the league on 1 point.

Keane's Views

I am extremely happy with the start that we have made. Our new signings have settled in well and there are a couple of matches where we have looked amazing! The first half against Leeds and the match against Wolves are for me the stand out matches this month. I think Son, Redmond and Martial are creating a good understanding and long may that continue.

Keane's Player Of The Month

Dean Henderson had a big role to fill after being declared as the United number 1 and he has not disappointed this month as he has only conceded one goal in the Premier League and was player of the match against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup despite conceding 3 goals!

Next Month's Fixtures

Home vs Arsenal
Home vs Everton
Away vs Palace
Away vs Fulham

Scott It will all work I am sure of this :)
ImDonkey Thanks dude I am having fun on FM again which is first time in a few years
A pleasing start!
A good start mate
Nice start to the season mate. Some unusual transfer activity throughout the summer but as long as results are coming on the park it must be working.

Champions League Draw

Manchester United have been handed a relatively straight forward Champions League group today. United have been drawn in Group A with 1st seeds Sevilla, Greek Champions Olympiakos and Turkish newcomers Basaksehir.

United could have had a lot worse with a group of death being Group E where current holders and German Champions FC Bayern, Ukrainian Champs Shakhtar, Italian side Inter and French runners up Marseille.

Group B looks interesting also with Real Madrid, German runners up Borussia M'gladbach, Ukrainians Dynamo Kyiv and the Portuguese underdogs Benfica.

FC Bayern are the favourites to win with Man City, Liverpool and Juventus likely to be in the mix, but who will make the knock outs?

ScottT and Walkinshaw Thanks :)
Imagine I am really pleased with my signings
A group that United should navigate themselves through with few problems.
Well, that's a very kind draw. As Scott says, the knockout stages should be visible already.

Continuation October

It was a good month again for Man Utd with 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat. It looks like Keane is started to find his starting 11 but he seems to be torn with the defence, Maguire has switched off twice this month and it wont make Keane happy.

Redmond and Son appear to be creating a good partnership and Martial is in the top 5 of the league's scoring. A blip in the Champions League but Olympiakos are doing the business in the Greek Super league and Champions League. Martial has netted a hat trick this month too.

Premier League

Man Utd 4-0 Arsenal

Redmond (6)
Martial (30, 50, 59)

We just carried on where we left September off in November, I would say that apart from Wan-Bisaka (not Bin- Wisaka like I called him since the start of this story) this is United's strongest line up (in this formation). It took United just 20 minutes to be 2-0 with a Redmond top corner special in the 6th minute and what can only be described as a goalmouth scramble that Martial scored his first from.

Hattrick Hero Martial

The second half was just as impressive from the counter attacking United side and despite Arsenal having 14 corners, United were relatively comfortable at the back. Martial then scored a header before neatly finishing from the edge of the box to make it 4-0 and a comfortable win

Man Utd 4-0 Everton

Son Heung-Min (19)
Cavani (72, 81)
Redmond (83)

The Everton game was a game for Van de Beek and Rashford to have a rest, Son moved wings and Greenwood came in as well as Samassekou with McTominay moving into the central midfield role. Everton start the better for 15 minutes but United contained them and once the countered a Everton corner, Son and Martial linked up well for Son to open the scoring.

Cavani came on at half time along with Van de Beek and it was a dull second half until Everton threw the kitchen sink at United, leaving huge gaps in midfield and with Van de beek on, he, Son, Redmon and Cavani exploited this for United to add 3 more goals int he last 18 minutes for a convincing victory and what a couple of signings Son and Redmond are looking.

Crystal Palace 2-2 Man Utd

Son Heung-Min (47)
Redmond (84)
It is becoming an emerging pattern now, Son and Redmond scoring but they were both at it again against Crystal Palace. Quite how Palace got two goals is beyond me but they did. This match saw Charlie McCann and Dilon Hoogewerf make there debuts. The game was end to end but it was a very stop start game with both Palace and United committing too many fouls. Son got the ball rolling in the 47th minute with a counter attacking goal.

Batshuyi latched onto a Zaha through ball to make it 1-1. There was then a very boring part of the game until Redmond thought he had won it for United with a goal from just inside the area. But United's defence switched off and in the 90th minute Zaha secured a share of the spoils but United remained without a defeat in the Premier League.

Fulham 1-2 Man Utd

Rashford (18, 69)

OMG! what a dire game this was, I could have fell asleep watching this and how there were 3 goals in utterly beyond me. Rashford was the exception to the rule though, when he got the ball it looked like he wanted to do something with it and the two goals he scored were both headed goal and both delivered by Son.

Champions League

Man Utd 3-0 Basaksehir

Greenwood 66, 86)
Son Heung-Min (90+4)

The highly rated young Turkish side cam to Old Trafford but United were in excellent form going into this! Cavani had scored two goals off the bench last time out against Everton which earnt him a starting slot, Martial dropped to left wing back as Rashford picked up a knock in training, Keane opted for Wan-Bisaka in central defence with Sule and Danayer, Maguire was rested all together.

It was a one sided game but the Turks defended immensely in the first half with Cavani, hitting the post, Van de beek forcing a great save and Sule heading just over. In the second half, Greenwood came on for Cavani and Martial went upfront. Greenwood hit one in from close range and this seemed to demoralise BFK. Greenwood added a second header before a typical United breakaway in injury time saw Son score a third and United had a perfect start to the Champions League campaign, elsewhere Olympiakos destroyed Sevilla 2-0.

Olympiakos 3-2 Man Utd

Rashford (9)
Redmond (37)

Olympiakos, undefeated in the Greek Superleague and in all competitions entertained United in Greece and this was a potential banana skin for United who named there strongest team apart from McTominay and Fernandes were injured so Samassakou and Fred came in.

Olympiakos started excellently and Maguire fell asleep as Mattieau Valbuena drove in from the angle to make it 1-0. It was quickly 1-1 though after good work from Rashford played a 1-2 with Martial to equalise and it got better half an hour later and Redmond scored from about 16 yards and it was out of nothing.

The thing with this Olympiakos side this season is that there not giving up. United were 3-2 down within 9 minutes! Valbuena, who was on course for player of the match put in a corner for Bruma to head home and the home fans went completely mental! Then just after half time, yet again Maguire was asleep and Papiss Cisse chipped Henderson to make it 3-2! United peppered the goal of Olympiakos after that but to no avail and inflicted Roy Keanes first defeat, for the Greek Champions they remain unbeaten in all competitions.

Champions League Table

Olympiakos are top with United in second. I expected Sevilla to be doing better than they are but theres still a long way to go.

Carabao Cup

Due to face Leeds on 22/12/2020

F.A Cup

Not drawn yet

Premier League Table

So United are top but Liverpool have a game in hand over them, Chelsea are still up there too but it is early in the season. Only 4 teams without a defeat in the Premier League (United, Liverpool, Chelsea and City). Burnley are 6th with West Brom, Crystal Palace and Fulham prop up the table.

Premier League Stats

So Salah has the most goals so far, Lacazette (ARS), Wilson (NEW) are both close behind and Martial has 6 goals.
Salah has the most shots, most key passes and most player of the match awards. United's Scott McTominay has the most tackles won this season so far.

Keane's Views

I think we have gave ourselves a great chance of a good season. I know I said we should be able to challenge for the Premier League Title but I wasn't expecting to be top. I am glad we are ahead of Liverpool and City. We still have a long way to go and have been lucky with injuries.

Rashford, Redmond, Son and Martial are combining to form a great playing relationship. Bruno and Donny are doing great also. I am unhappy with Maguire's form and this will be dealt with. We had a little hiccup in the Champions League but we are still doing fine.

Keane's Player Of The Month

I was going to say Son Heung-Min but I have to give it to Redmond. Four goals this month, 2 assists is an amazing return for the guy that had many eyebrows raised when he signed for United but he has justified his arrival at the moment and is fully deserving of the player of the month.

Gareth Southgate has been visiting Old Trafford a fair bit this season and I think Redmond could receive a England call up to add to his 1 cap in 2016, That is amazing he's only had one cap.

Next Month's Fixtures

Sevilla Away CL
Wolves Home PL
Arsenal Away PL
Sevilla Home CL
Leeds Home PL

ScottT I hope So
