AS Roma are classed as one of Italian Footballs "BIG CLUBS" but if you delve a little deeper into there history there is actually very little to back that claim up. They have not won the top division title since the 2000/01 season or any silverware at all since the 2007/08 season. Don't even mention football on the European stage the past couple of seasons they have had to settle for Europa League football. So where do the problems lie? What can they do to end this barren run and become a proper force in Italian and European Football?
The Aim
-To become the dominant team in Italian football.
-Eventually become an Italian national only football club.
-Upgrade and promote youth players into the first team.
(bonus points if the players are born in Rome)
-End the wait for European silverware.
I have only just started my save with the latest transfer update included. Im currently in the transfer window and have made a start sorting the squad and signing some Italian players. I'm very happy with the deals we have done so far.
Players Out
Antonio Mirante £500k Real Madrid - At 37 years old and on a shockingly high wage this was a no brainer we are building for the future.
Edin Dzeko £3.4m PSG I know that Dzeko can offer the team a lot but at 34 again he doesn't have a lot to offer going forward. Also losing his £245k p/w salary is a massive saving. And being Bosnian it goes against our eventual Italian team.
Pedro £10.75m Barcelona Similar to Dzeko he isn't Italian is now 33 years old and on ridiculous high wages.
Davide Santon £5.5m The reason I let him go is I felt we had enough cover on that side of the pitch and I believed the fee was reasonable for the caliber of player he is.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan £13m Juventus Wrong side of 30 not Italian high wages......we have heard it all before.
Transfers In
Manuel Gasparini £5m Udinese Not only a young replacement for the outgoing Mirante but also a player who has the potential to be the number one goalkeeper for the next 15 seasons. Also Italian.
Domenico Berardi £12.5m Sassuolo An absolute steal and a player who can play on the wing to replace Pedro/Mikhi but can also cover upfront. Also Italian
Andrea Belotti £22m Torino Straight swap for Dzeko much younger and an Italian national. Again has potential to improve going forward.
Riccard Orsolini £19m Bologna Another youngster who can play in a variety of positions. Again covers the loss of Pedro/Mikhi massive potential going forward and has a great eye for goal. Also Italian.
Manuel Locatelli £20m Sassuolo Wanted to get him cheaper but they wouldn't budge, another Italian youngster who will strengthen the centre of the park. Plenty of potential and wanted by some of Europe's top clubs.
I will update when we have played a few games of the Serie A season.
