The Journey
Football manager at heart is a journey, a culture, an expression. In this series it is the journey. It takes the game of football which is much loved throughout the world and allows an individual to experience that world first hand and dare to dream with whatever scenario they see fit.
You never forget the highs experienced playing this series, even many years on.
My first Champions League win was with my AS Roma team in the Championship Manager days.
A 1-0 victory over AC Milan with Abel Balbo in the 89th minute always sticks with me and while I was too young for champagne was celebrated over a cold glass of Dr Pepper.
The Author
My name is Sam and I work a full-time job, have a young family and am passionate about sport. After many years of playing football, I currently play in local tennis leagues and enjoy socialising with friends and family.
I have recently become very intrigued by blogging as a concept and the opportunity to create content about something I enjoy and want to share and ultimately entertain. I have read a number of Football Manager blogs both as a casual reader and in research preparing to launch my own.
This series has a cultural identity and I welcome the opportunity to interact with fellow fans in a positive way. The competition for me is in the game and completely respect and support others who blog and create content on Football Manager.
After a number of years away from the series I bought a copy of Football Manager 2021 during the recent pandemic as a new distraction after indulging in a number of YouTube videos to re-educate myself with the latest version of the game.
My particular favourite is Zealand from FM Base who has both entertaining and detailed content on pretty much every aspect of Football Manager. Respect to the European Champions BATE Borisov, suggest check him out if you haven’t already.
I get a few hours at multiple times a week to de-stress where I turn to the game, usually in the evening and as such my Football Manager enjoyment is not rushing a season, taking the moments to enjoy the highs and lows. Making those promotion pushes and cup runs hold even more weight when the all or nothing games come in. I hope this will present a different kind of Football Manager story and help build the involvement with the team.
Check out my website where I will host the blog as well as football shirt reviews and football club stats and articles. UpTheFMDucks

Football Manager 2021
My first run on Football Manager 2021 was straight to the Premier League to recapture the title for Manchester United, a feat achieved in my first season making only one major signing at centre back in Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar. Alongside Harry Maguire the defence was on lockdown and attacking wise we benefitted from the outstanding early development of wonderkid Mason Greenwood and a 30+ goal season from Anthony Martial (Who knew?!).
The Journey & The Premise
Take Aylesbury United to the higher leagues in English Football. Basically UpTheFMDucks
The idea is to document the Football Manager journey I am taking with Aylesbury United sharing via the UpTheFMDucks blog and YouTube channel, thank you for taking the time to visit.
Blog updates right here on UpTheFMDucks will look to cover a multi run of games per post once we get into the drama of the English Football Season.
Over on YouTube meet George, the charismatic commentator / ducks fan who will be providing an interesting take on match highlights on UpTheFMDucksTV
Rules are as follows:
Attribute Masking is on
No Using Online Tools – In Game Scouting Only
What Happens, Happens – No Reloading
No Online Help – Use My Own Tactics
My research informs me FM21 is a particularly harder challenge than previous games attempting lower league saves due in particular to the financial challenges the pandemic & the form of Brexit the game invokes to ‘catch up’ to the higher levels.
I want to make this fun with comedy and entertainment. If I achieve any of those things then I’m counting this enterprise as a success.
