Skin Help

Good morning my good fellas... My name is Mimis and I come from Greece. I'm administrator in Football-Manager.gr and the purpose of this post is not advertising my site.

Since 2009, I am in the creating skin business for my site. I have copied some buttons and have created of my own some other. With a little help from a friend I changed some .xml files to give another view to the screens. Until today I have developed 3 skins and it was a great success. Over 1000 downloads each one... For my country believe me, it's a gigantic number...

Why I'm in need of help?

This yeat I thought it would be great to create these 3 skins for fm 2011. The screen codes have changed and many windows were added. I can't complete any of those 3 to upload them and I want someone to help me, or give them to him and complete them on his own with his own grafical taste that would fit with the colors... These 3 skins are 85-95% completed, so it won't be very tiring and take much time...

Anyone, please?

Just keep checking back on this post for replies. Had I any inclination on how to create a damn skin, i would most definitely help you out but I will leave it those who know what they are doing :p

Do let me/us know when the skins are finished though, as I will try them out for you and give you some feedback

Provide some screenshots for us. Personally I don't have the time to help with skinning, but will gladly add them to our collection here if they're relatively good.

Honestly, most skins these days are just recoloring and changing background of the default skin. Only 2-3 skins are top quality.
Having said that, I hope some day I'll find time to come up with my own

I wonder what is it that you like guys. They seem a bad copy/paste + recolor to me. Buttons/colors are also far from being nice or usable.

I'd advise you to stick with 1 skin and try a different approach; start with a mockup in Photoshop for example and show us how you'd want it to look without the xml issues.

A bad copy/paste? I don't think we have worked together for these skins to have this kind of opinion. I don't appreciate it, I'm sorry... I spent days and nights before the screen to bring something like this in my country, in my forum and to everyone else. Three skins are a big work to do and as you are not as you're saying someone who knows how to create one, you shouldn't talk like this, you discourage people.

I advice you to stop advising and be more helpfull in other ways...

I wasn't expecting you to appreciate criticism, it's always hard to accept a negative critique.

If you did spend days and nights to come up with that, that's discouraging then. Your country that happens to be mine as well should be no mitigating factor for skins or whatever really. FM Greece has a couple of decent skinners by the way.

Not having the time to create a skin myself doesn't mean I don't know how it works. Trust me when I get around to do one, it should be great or I wouldn't even consider releasing it.
3 skins are indeed a big work to do, but there's a difference between 3 nice skins and 3 any skins. I could prepare 5 skins like yours in a couple of days, but they wouldn't be great either - so there's no purpose for me. I'd rather take my time and work on 1 great rather than 3 more.

How I should talk is not something you are in a position to judge, besides I only said my honest opinion anyway.

I'm not the type of person that doesn't appreciate any types of critisism. I just don't get it when you judge something that you can't see. You saw some pictures and you said that are bad copies. You haven't even browse the skin and you have an opinion? How do you do that? That way are you buying a car? You said bad copies... from what? I put numbers on the bars in the tactics screen (have you ever saw that?) I placed the person picture on the left and in the middle the team badge (is that something you have seen again and I copied it, huh?) Yeah, right, man...

FM greece has decent skinners indeed, but they just don't give me any help because they like to ignore any other effort from a "rival" site. I've sent a message asking for help some weeks ago and I didn't get any answer. They didn't even tell, "sorry we can't help you" and staff. And now you're saying the same thing. You can't help me, you don't know how to help me, you have a half of an opinion and you are arrogant. OK, thanks, big help...

Menz stop cryin plz! This is not "the best 2011 skin" competition! Thanks to FM Scout we live in a community in which we all give and take! And i like it to stay that way

I'm not trying to offend you or to be arrogant. I apologize if my opinion made you feel bad about your work. I understand you're doing this for fun and it's not about producing the best skin around the scene either. I believed that by suggesting you to try a mockup in Photoshop first and concentrating on 1 skin, it would be a decent piece of advise. I'm sorry I don't have time to help you with actual graphics, I barely have time to relax lately.

I didn't see a tactics screenshot, but do you mean numbers on tactics slider? I saw your player picture mod but it looks weird, try that instead?

The way FM Greece is handling things is their own problem, and hey at least I replied. Saying something and not saying anything is obviously not the same. It's also obvious that I won't stop you from finishing those skins and releasing them, and it's not my mission either. I'm not here to fight anyway, so accept my apologies for any bad feelings I may have caused you.

Please, don'ta take it the wrong way. We're not fighting, we have some different opinions on the ways we see things. I just don't like a bad critique when it's half. As you see the sliders on the tactics screen have 20 clicks to scroll right to left. I put a number on the right. That way you can manage your team better. It's not the same to read attacking on the 15 clicks and not the same on 17 clicks...

You will see many mods from my part. I want first to finish the graphic part. Then I'll show you, even more I'll share with you my skins.
