Full Name: Frank James Lampard
Date of Birth: 20 June 1978 (43 years old)
Place of Birth: Romford, London, United Kingdom
Nationality: English (106 caps)
Biography
Frank Lampard is an English professional football manager and former professional footballer who was last manager of Premier League side Chelsea FC.

Lampard was one of the Premier League's best ever midfielders across a 21 year career with West Ham, Chelsea and Manchester City. Despite playing through the centre of the park, Lampard had a famous propensity for scoring goals with 177 in the Premier League and 274 in total across his club career, as well as 29 goals for the English national team. His trophy cabinet as a player with Chelsea, where he spent the majority of his career, includes 3 Premier League titles, 4 FA Cups and a Champions League win in 2012. Individually, he won the FWA Footballer of the Year award in 2004/05 and was named in the EPL Team of the Season 3 years running.

After a short stint in the US with New York City FC, Lampard obtained his coaching badges and was hired as manager of Championship side Derby County in May 2018. In his only season at the Rams, he guided them to 6th in the league and an eventual play-off berth where they lost to Aston Villa. At the end of the season, he was heavily linked with the vacant Chelsea role and was hired to his former club on a three year deal.

In 2019/20, after a notorious 4-0 loss to Manchester United to start his tenure, Lampard turned to youth and guided the Blues to a respectable 4th as well as a losing FA Cup final. In his second season, Chelsea sat in first on the Premier League table by December before a poor run of form saw Lampard lose his job to Thomas Tuchel, who would go on to win the Champions League with Chelsea later that season.

Lampard had 'mixed emotions' about Champions League final

07 June 2021

Frank Lampard has admitted he had mixed emotions watching Chelsea win the Champions League in Porto last month.

Lampard has also revealed that getting the sack at Chelsea has not put him off management and that he is ready to get back into work when the right job comes up.

Speaking while working as a pundit for the BBC during their coverage of England’s Euro 2020 opener against Croatia, Lampard praised the job Thomas Tuchel has done since replacing him at Stamford Bridge in January and said he was pleased as a “Chelsea person” when they beat Manchester City in the Champions League Final last month.

Lampard said he also felt pride at the role played by players like Mason Mount in the success but, understandably, admitted he wished he was the manager who led them to European glory.

Asked by Gary Lineker if he had mixed emotions watching Chelsea beat City 1-0, Lampard said: “Yeah. When you work towards something, you want to be there, you want to be the manager. I am never going to try and lay claim on that. I was part of the early foundation potentially but Thomas did a fantastic job getting them there.

“I will say, that when I watched it, first I am a Chelsea person and Chelsea fans are happy and the club deserves that. Secondly to see Mason and Reece James perform at that level, people like Mendy, Chilwell and Thiago, who came in during my time there, makes me pretty proud. But it was a great achievement by them and very well managed.”

Asked how he reflects on his time at Chelsea, Lampard said: “You never want to lose a job. I am pretty good company at Chelsea, it happens, it is the brutal reality of football at the highest level. With reflection, it has been nice to spend some time out of the game. I am pretty proud of the job I did.

“It was an honour to manage the club. I came in at a tough time with the ban and the loss of Eden Hazard, and worked really hard in year one to get into the Champions League and develop the younger players like Mason Mount. I am happy. You do not want to lose your job but it was a huge experience for me. I only want to look at it positively going forward.

Lampard has been linked with the Crystal Palace job. Asked if he has had any good offers, Lampard said: “Obviously not as good as this because I am here!

“I am certainly not put off. I love the job, I love the challenge of it. I had two great experiences at Derby and then at Chelsea, and would love to get back in at the right time and the right moment.”

Where to now for Frank Lampard?

14 June 2021

Football fans across the UK have seen plenty of Frank Lampard over the last few days, with the Chelsea legend working with the BBC as a pundit for their Euros coverage.

Lampard was sacked as Blues manager in January and watched Thomas Tuchel take the side to Champions League glory two weeks ago in Porto.

The 43 year old took time away from football in the latter half of last season before picking up a role as a pundit alongside Petr Cech at the BBC.

Lampard has been linked with the vacancies at Crystal Palace and Everton but is not considered to be a leading candidate for either role at this stage.

He hasn’t ruled out a move back to the Championship either, where he cut his teeth at Derby County, taking the Rams to a 6th placed finish and a playoff final berth in his one and only season in England’s second tier.

West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield United are still on the hunt for new managers after both sides were relegated last season, and could present a promising opportunity for an ambitious coach looking to bounce back immediately.

Scott Parker is also heavily rumoured to be on his way out of Craven Cottage as well amid interest from Bournemouth.

FULHAM APPOINT FRANK LAMPARD

30 June 2021

The Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Frank Lampard as our new Head Coach.

Lampard has agreed a two-year deal with Fulham, keeping him at Craven Cottage until the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

Speaking to fulhamfc.com, Lampard said: “I’m really pleased and proud to be appointed Head Coach of such a historic football club. I want to thank the owner, Mr Khan, Tony Khan and the entire football structure of Fulham Football Club, for the trust shown in me. I’m excited to get started and my message for our fans ahead of this big challenge is we will all be working very hard together to be successful so they can feel proud at the end of the season.”

Fulham Chairman Shahid Khan provided the following statement: “My commitment to Fulham Football Club is resolute and I therefore take to heart my obligation to provide our supporters with the very best possible, on the pitch and away from the game. In recent days, this responsibility entailed identifying, interviewing and hiring a head coach who would achieve all of our objectives as a club.”

This is Lampard’s third job in English football, having previously led Derby County and Chelsea FC.

After firing Derby to a 6th placed finish in the Championship in 2018/19, he went on to guide Chelsea to a 4th place finish in 2019/20 while blooding a number of talented young players.

Lampard keen to get to work

01 July 2021

Frank Lampard confirmed he wants to get down to business as quickly as possible with Fulham at his first press conference at Craven Cottage today.

Lampard confirmed he is looking to play ‘attractive attacking football’ as he leads a Fulham side that on paper should be challenging for a title.

When asked if his squad was adequate, Lampard threw his full support behind his players; “I couldn’t be happier with the squad. On paper it looks formidable.”

Twenty-one journalists from across England were keen to see the 43 year old speak for the first time in his new capacity as Fulham manager, a step down from his previous role at Chelsea.

Lampard also admitted that “promotion was a priority”, and did not intend on getting trapped in the Championship for any significant period of time.

He is expected to bring in his own backroom staff at some point in the near future as well.

Fulham release ten

01 July 2021

Fulham FC have released ten players following the expiration of their contracts with the club.

Most notable amongst these players is 29 year old goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli, who has moved to Chelsea as a backup option for Edoard Mendy.

Bettinelli made his debut for Fulham in 2016 but never made the position his own despite playing 103 games in his time at the club.

32 year old Scottish international Kevin McDonald was also released after he failed to make a single PL appearance for the club in 2020/21. McDonald joined from Wolves in 2016 for £1.3 million and was a mainstay of the side in his first two seasons but is now expected to sign with Motherwell in the cinch Premiership.

The other players leaving Craven Cottage today include Jordan Aina, Ryan De Havilland, Lesley Duru, Jayden Harris, Jaydn Mundle-Smith, Luca Murphy, Julian Schwarzer and Martell Taylor-Crossdale.
