Guys, Firstly can I thank you all for your great tips and help. I have used all of the tips from Bole, Redarmy etc and it certainly does help.

I have one problem though at the moment, I am many years in and I always used to win a few games with a new team but then go on a really bad losing streak and not win a game for ages, get the sack etc. So I used your tips and went in with more detail in the tactics side, coaching staff etc, that definately helped but I still go on little runs where I just cant win a game (not as bad as before but still frustating), this will happen with every team I have!

The fans critise me for not changing formation aswell but you guys say dont change formation.
HELP please!! awesome game but annoying sometimes!
well changing tactics too often isnt good, thats a fact. but changing it once in a while to find out which one works best for ur team shouldnt be a problem.

How long is this run of bad games?

because at times i can go 5 matches with a bad run, but then i get like 10 unbeaten if not all wins in a row. so bad things do happen.

and of course when take over a new team then it takes some time for the team to settle and all.

but then again the tactics and team talks and such are a big thing. and its hard to tell how you should do exactly, but you can most certainly see if your team is playing good with one tactic or another.

for an example: if you get a good tactic for your team, and then stick to that tactic and build on it, changing personal instructions trying a few new things now and then. that will help you learn a lot to be honest. you dont have to play with the same style all the time etc etc.

and the best thing is that you learn from your 'mistakes'.

of course if you are new to the game you might find it frustrating because FM has become harder and harder. unlike in fm 05/06 where it was easier to win and all. but i have played it for so long and learnt from my mistakes and all.

and i am honest now when i say that real football knowledge does help you make a better football manager(in the game).

if you can look at a real game and compare the simple tactical things with FM then u can have it much easier to play it.

because FM is based so much on real football that it is quite so real.

think of a real game ur watching, and at times you think they should be playing like this, and these players are needed and why they havent done like this and all. well in FM you can do all that, thats whats amazing. and you can certainly learn things yourself.

try new things, try different things, look at whats the best, what works the best etc etc. :)

ok thats great, I will give it a go. Your right it feels so real sometimes, its a great game. I have played all the champ manager series over the years and then footy manager but this is the hardest by far.

Annoying how you always get disallowed goals every game! stupid really.

As for a bad run of games I would say at the moment it would be like 5 games but before I put all your tips into pratice, it was like half a season!!

Thanks again

whats your advice on teamtalks then? is the best tactic is 4-4-2 diamond formation? whats your thoughts?
Maffers : whats your advice on teamtalks then? is the best tactic is 4-4-2 diamond formation? whats your thoughts?

at home: do it for the fans.

away: you can win this, wish luck

if away against a rival: do it for the fans, probably.

at half time if loosing and most of ur team have superb or very good in morale then be dissapointed away or home doesnt matter.
and if their morale is low at HT when loosing then encourage them.

the 4-4-2 diamond formation works really good with a 'smaller team' in ur first 1-2 seasons. but then u might feel ur team is too attacking and need more balancing then u can try new tactics that work with ur team, probably 4-4-2.

at the moment I play a 4-4-2 diamond formation which is quite good, I put all my defenders to close down, dont push up. DM I dont push forward, closing down etc and the AM I push forward, run with ball, long shots etc. Attackers to swop over regularly, is this good?

Cheers for advice on teamtalks, I never know what to say and sometimes can be harsh
Lone Strikers are doing me massive favours right now. I manage Newcastle so I have'nt signed a single striker since I started playin and I surround him with an AMC and two wingers who can supply him (Elano, Petrov, Bresciano, etc.) never give all ur players similar instructions. Defenders DEFEND, strikers ATTACK and playmakers are CREATIVE know what each plaer is capaple of and set them to it. Respect right footed and Left footed and never underestimate a team and decide you want a goalfest. Respect Wolves@St. James(my home) in the same way as Arsenal@Emirates

yeh the tactic sounds good. what u can look into is the players abilities and try to make the 'perfect' personal instructions for that player. and if the AM is good on free roles then set him to have free roles

im using 4-4-2 diamond as well..my DMs is set to defensive and i get one who can really defend, like Javier Mashaereno or Miguel Veluso. also, i set my wingbacks to run forward on space to support my wingers who is set to cut inside the box instead of running dwn the flanks. AMC runs forward with strikers and usually free role and lots of long shots. i can score lots of goals with the formation but u gotta have good DCs and DMs or else u may concede tons of goals as well as the formation is attacking in nature =)

yeah my formation is similar though I dont really push the full backs on as I feel I concede alot doing this, I have just brought Cana as my DM and he is class
