Get me started with an application for porting savegames from one FM version to another

Hello,

I've been toying with an idea for an application:
I would like to be able to port a savegame from one version of the game to another.
This is purely because I think it would be good if you'd be able to continue your save and still get the new features and improved ME of a new version of FM.

So, I'd take the data from one savegame and port it to another (as completely as possible). That's about it. :)

However, I don't (yet) have a starting point for the app, so what I'm asking is:
Can anyone experienced in dealing with FM savegames point me to any documentation and such?
Anything helpful to get the ball rolling would be greatly appreciated.
If I am honest with you mate I don't think it can be done because of a few complications but am sure if you managed to pull it off there would be a few people really interested in using it. Also am sure there will be someone on here who will be willing to help you :)
Good luck!!
I'm making one for my personal use with FM2011 and CM01/02.
Since a saved game literally involves thousands of parameters that change every year, its likelihood of conversion to compatibility for subsequent versions seems very low.

But on the other hand, I'd like to see a utility in which we could watch the saved matches (i.e replays) of previous FM editions. Even if its just 2D, it would be worthwhile reliving some of those moments. They have a similar tool for Pro Evo Soccer, but I've not seen one for FM yet.
Your living in denial, new game new start!

It would have to be run with the FM application itself, since simulating the match engine from scratch is pretty much impossible.
