I'm rather new to FM2011, I only started playing about a month ago. I'm playing with Arsenal. During my first season I won pretty much everything. I had a 85% winrate, I only lost 2-3 matches in total. I blazed my way through all the competitions in England and the Europa League, I even won from Real Madrid in the finals and beat Man Utd, Inter and Bayern along the way.
Now I'm in season two and I can't seem to be able to win anything anymore. I made a few changes in my setup, got a few new players, but I didn't change the tactics. I really don't get what's going wrong.
I play with a 4-4-2 set up. Two fullbacks on attack, two central defenders with defend duty. Two inside forwards on the wings. One advanced playmaker with attacking duty and a ball winning midfielder. Then a poacher and an advanced forward.
My usual squad consists of;
Almunia (GK)
Clichy (Left FB)
Vermaelen (C)
Koliency (C)
Van der Wiel (Right FB)
Fabio Contrao (Left inside forward)
Poli (Ball winning midfielder)
Fabregas (Advanced Playmaker)
Abate (Right inside foward)
Zarate (Poacher)
Van Persie (Advanced Forward)
Though I have 6 long term injuries. Suarez, Van Persie, Zarate, Abate, Coentrao and Walcott. So I'm forced to use Nasri, Arshavin, Vela, Wellington Silva and Bendtner instead.
That is some attacking formation! I operate a similar system but the wingers are orthadox wide midfielders not inside forwards and the wide defenders are not on attack (automatic I believe). The game is intelligent so it's quite possible that the AI of the opponents knows your tactics if you never change them and sets up their team accordingly. Sometimes you need to change things around slightly just to keep the opponents on their toes. Match preparation is key. Practice attacking set pieces and attacking movement. Team blend mightened be a bad one because even one or two players change a teams dynamic. Team talks should be all about encouragement in a slump, no point giving out all the time..
Myabe whole squad hasn't blend in yet as you had use different players and cfsoulli said say to some players different team talk.
play Concentrao as a wide midfielder or a winger, same with Abate if it's the italian one, try zarate as deep lying forward as well and set vermaelen to stopper and coscielny to cover
It is the italian one. I'll give it a shot, thank you for the advice.
The morale of my squad is very good though, which surprises me. It's always in the green, even though I'm not getting the results I need.
I'll try playing my wingers as wide midfielders, or wingers, instead of inside forwards. Right now I have Vermaelen as a ball playing defender, because I like being able to set up an attack from my defence. I'm getting Subotic soon as well, who's going to replace Koliency. I'll set t hem to stopper and cover, and see what happens.
I just played a few games with the suggested changes, but it hasn't helped yet so far. I concede far too easily, and can't manage to score myself.
Results;
1-1 home against Wolves
3-1 away against Shaktar
3-0 away against Tottenham
I just get overrun and can't keep possession, my defenders get outplayed far too easily and my attackers can't hold on to the ball or penetrate the defence of the other side.

First of all where is Sagna?? Arshavin?? Nasri is on sub???
First season the only thing you needed was a gk nothing more oh and a dm
Where is Song Djourou you bought so many players and your team is over matched by the AI !
Besides 4-4-2 is a loser for all great teams in the game
But with the players that Arsenal have on the start you should play 4-1-2-1-2
with a Deep Lying forward share the balls all around and a striker like Walcott who will run on the counter besides the players you bought are not so bigger than the already ones that possessed Arsenal in the first place!
