Hey Guys, part time lurker, long time player here seeking some advice, which I hope someone can help with.

I’ve just got hold of the latest FM, after a couple of seasons break, and I’m getting on alright with it, but I have a query concerning Transfer windows across Europe. I started my game with Crawley Town (inspired by them drawing United in the FA cup, and wanted to know a bit about them before Saturday’s game), and led them to the conference title in my first season, which I completed on Saturday night. As the match with United had passed, and because the finances were starting to look a bit too red for my liking (despite sticking to wage budget and spending nothing on transfers L), I decided it was time to find another job, so started applying for anything available. The board got wind of it, gave me an ultimatum, and in my slightly inebriated state (3am on Saturday by this time J) my back went up and I resigned. I then bored myself to sleep applying for new jobs…

Eventually discovered you could go on holiday and still apply for jobs (thanks to this site), so I set that in motion yesterday and started getting a few offers around Christmas time of season 2. I rejected a few then took one up with Gil Vicente of Liga Oringa (sp?) in Portugal (I think I got it since I’m down as a past International player), but got a little frustrated with them because I couldn’t seem to sign any players before the summer. Now by this stage it was early February, and yes I know the normal transfer window had shut, but in England there’s a free transfer and loan window which permits signings up until usually a month or so before the season ends, so I was a little confused. All the players I was trying to sign were on free transfers, and they had all been without clubs, and furthermore, anytime I tried to make an offer to loan a player (regardless of the league they were from), the option to loan was greyed out. Initially I hadn’t noticed I was signing players for July, and given that they were mostly old boys (Rivaldo for example and a few ex Portuguese internationals) who were chosen as a short term fix solution to rescue Vicente from relegation, I decided I’d messed up the game, and reverted to a save prior to taking up the job offer.

I go back to my holiday settings, applying for anything, and by mid March I’m offered the job at Pedrovedra (again, forgive the spelling) in the Spanish B1 division. This looked like a challenge as they were part timers, although the press decided it was a “massive” step up for me when I gave my first interview, but anyway it looked like fun. Now I’ve very little knowledge of Spanish football, with the exception of the top teams in La Liga, and the whole affiliate/reserve team thing is a little confusing initially, especially when I found a lot of players ineligible to play if switched between teams. This was a problem because my part timers had all of their strikers out on the long term injury list, so I was forced to look into the transfer market again, and this is where things got stupidly frustrating.

I had a few cheap but decent looking strikers on my shortlist, who’d been too good for Crawley, and I offered them contracts, along with Rivaldo again and some random German keeper who was twice as good as my current one, apparently. Slightly wary because of my Vicente experience, I double checked that they could sign immediately, and sure enough they could, and they appeared in my squad as expected. Brilliant I thought, now for a late charge on the playoffs, however when I tried to add them to my match day team, the game told me they couldn’t be registered for the match. Hmm, maybe they need a few days to complete registration I thought, but no, 3 weeks later and they still can’t be registered for games. I forgot to also mention that I have a 4th striker in my default squad who was not injured, but has the red ineligible sign beside his name, and like Rivaldo and co, can’t be played, however none of my own signings have this symbol beside them.

Now I apologise for the wall of text in telling my story, but the tldr version is “wtf” basically, and is there anything I can do to get these guys playing before the end of season (some registration option hiding under my nose for example)? All of them have been signed well before the normal free transfer/loan deadline dates would normally be in an English league, they were all free agents, and it doesn’t appear to be a problem with nationality, as I’ve a Spaniard in the mix along with two Europeans and obviously the Brazilian. I also have the problem that I can’t make loan signings in Spain, as it’s greyed out on the make offer drop down, as it had been with Vicente. It’s particularly frustrating because, firstly I really need them, and secondly the 4th striker guy I referred to has already started complaining about not getting a game, and what can you tell him?

Any ideas what’s going on, or at least could someone define the transfer rules for me in Spain\Portugal if that’s the issue?
i don't know if i read everything correctly, but there is a squad registration button on the upper side of your screen when you see the squad. I use another skin so it might be in a different place but...
Normally the squad registration has to be completed at the end of the transfer window. It's possible to register players after this date but there needs to be available slots to put them in (eg. if you are allowed 25 registered players you would have only registered 20 and left room for 5 players after the registration window). It's not possible to unregister a player after the window is closed though so you may be stuck.
