all my cb's seems to loose heading attributes, is this not a part of "defensive traning"? if not, then wich category does it belong to? this is killing me !
Hmm I always thought it was in defense training but to be honest I don't know where it is and in my team defenders also are losing heading attribute quite a lot.
ball control training covers heading
that's nothing short of retarded! So now I'll have to make my CB's dribblers in order to make sure that they can head the ball ? -.-
Yes, heading improves through ball control but you can also count on Jumping, Positioning, Anticipation... Of course the players height is vital!
I'm not sure but in my opinion strength and acceleration may also play some role. I have an extraordinary DC/DMC who is 1.70m with very low heading and Jumping... He's very effective, one of the best for either DC/DMC because he always reach the ball first! He has 19 acceleration, 18 pace, 17 agility, 15 positioning, anticipation... Not 100% sure for all stats cause i'm not in my pc now.. Hope i've helped...
sometimes I just wonder what SI are thinking... well yes, about the pacyer defenders, the can be absolutely magnificant, espacialy when you play a high possesion and pressure games so that they don't have to handle many crosses... I've seen pacyer defenders being very strong offesively as well, just beacuase, as you said, they'll always reach the ball first, had a defender who was around 173cm and he scored 15(!) PL-goals for me in one season!
I think strength is a role because I think it helps determine whether or not you win challenges. This is probably tackling or aerial.

Exactly what I'm talking about! My man scores lots of goals from corners due to his high acceleration even though he has very low finishing...
Ah, I just can't stop thinking about FM10 Cristian Zapata, best DC I've ever seen in the game!
its absolutely crazy in my opinion, heading should be covered under defending training as well as ball control if that is needed so a striker can increase his heading as well, but if my defenders add ball control to their training areas such as first touch and dribbling will rise using up remaining potential ability points i want to go towards marking and tackling. In my current save i have Phil Jones at centre back, england captain, and worth 30 million pound, one of the best defenders on the game, BUT HIS HEADING has droped to a CRAZY rating of just 5 now after slowly decreasing every season i have had him, it looks so stupid and he must get beaten in the air every single time. At least his marking and tackling and most other important defender stats are almost 20 :]

Also, my first signing every single save on FM10, i loved him :D
well yhea, that's what pisses me off as well, I've added ballcontrol to my defenders traning so that they would stop losing their headingability, but they also waiste PA on free-kicks, dribbling and crossing because of that!

I'll try something new now, once again removing ball control all togather and just ask them to focus on headers instead, hopefully it'll work!
maybe we cant sugest to SI to put a ball control to defend and a ball control to attack..... after all wend a play in Desporivo de Queluz now is know as Real Massama we have training of heading to defendend and headind to attack....

try to put your defenders with headind trainning and match preparation to defendind set-pieces maybe that works.... by the way my trainning have a lot of ball control to every positions in the defenders tecnique and first tutch is the ones that grow up faster and in my oppinion thosse tecnical atributes for a defender is vital. first tuch for the palyerr dont loose the ball and tecnique to to do a good header or a good tackle....
I'd say just divide the whole thing so that you can control all attributes except for the mental... this is highly realistic as it's not that hard to do provided that you have the manpower! which translates nice into the game
1. Heading is covered by Ball Control

2. First touch is also very important for a defender in my opinion, as to any player on the pitch.

3. Technique also helps him increase the accuracy of the headed ball, either to send it in the net, or when used defensively, to send the ball to another member of your team rather to the opponent or outside the pitch. If you look at the wrong passes made by a defender during a match half of them are just interceptions that end up to the opponent again.

4. I am not 100% sure but the offensive attributes such as technique, first touch and passing take less CA that tackling or marking for a defender, either because of the natural position or/and because the closer to 20 an attribute is the harder is to improve it.

5. Free kicks and crossing are not increased by the ball control category.

6. Also technique has nothing to do with tackling. And if Phil Jones has 5-20-20(where 5 represents heading) attributes, if heading was 15 imagine the other 2 being 16, wouldn't this be fair? So it's always about balance. I generally started preferring faster defenders in detriment of the towering ones because it's how I believe the game is evolving. Or just pair a fast one with a tall one. Shorter defenders are better overall, but if they are not playing well in a game, then you are in big trouble.
