Hello everyone, I decided to create a version of the Copa Libertadores including Mexican and American teams in the current Champions League format. I'm using FM24's official advanced editor, and despite having no prior experience, after many hours, I managed to create this competition.
I decided to leave the knockout stages that precede the main league stage (as in the Champions League with 36 teams) as they currently are in the Libertadores. So, in the first round of the knockouts, 16 teams enter, with 8 qualifying. In the second round, 16 more teams enter, resulting in 24 teams, qualifying 12 teams for the third round. In this final round, no teams are added, so of these last 12 teams, 6 qualify for the league stage.
So, 30 teams (the best from each national league) enter the league stage, which, added to the 6 teams that qualified in the knockouts, totals 36 teams. From then on, the current Champions League format continues.
However, I'm facing a problem I can't solve: the distribution of spots by country in each stage. I'm having trouble implementing the following distribution:
First round (16 teams):
2 teams each from Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Uruguay, Paraguay, Peru, Bolivia, and Venezuela
Second round (24 teams):
3 teams each from Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and the USA
1 team each from Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, and Uruguay
+8 teams qualified from the first round
League stage (36 teams):
3 teams each from Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, the USA, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, and Uruguay
2 teams each from Paraguay and Peru
1 team each from Bolivia and Venezuela
+6 teams qualified from the third round
In addition to this problem, the best teams from each country are starting in the knockout stages, but they should have started in the league stage—in other words, the situation is reversed.
I haven't yet adjusted the stages following the league stage, as I'm focused on solving these issues first. I'll leave the editor's file here. Just like the Copa Sudamericana, which I included only to avoid errors in the editor's verification test (I'll duplicate the Libertadores when it's ready and leave the same format for the Sudamericana).
