New Steam Client Upload has stopped FM2012 from Loading?

I have been using FM 2012 on a Mac for last week with no issues.

Last night on launching steam a message appeared to say there was a new steam client upload (about 25MB)
After this had downloaded I tried to open FM 2012 as normal.
A message box flashes yo and appears to say
"Preparing to launch fm 2012"
Then a separate box:-
"Validating STeam cache Files 0 of 1" Followed by
"validating STeam files 100% complete - All files successfully loaded" followed by
"The steam servers are currently too busy to handle your request. Please try again in a few minutes"

I have tried changing the region as suggested in the steam support with no effect.
I have good connectivity.
I have also tried removing the .ntf files as suggested with no effect and have placed them back as all this does is result in me having to download the game again which I cannot do because I still get the please try again later message.
Any suggestions as I cannot launch FM 2012 ?!?

Please note that FM 2011 still launches fine so this must be something to do with the download for steam last night that has corrupted my computers ability to start FM2012?

i have the similar problem. i updated to the new steam client and then tried to load fm2012. all i get is the about to launch fm12 pop up box then nothing. when i go to close steam it says i have to close down fm12 first, even though it hasn't come up.
