I just started to experiment with my team and i need these questions to be answered...
1. What is free role and what players should have free role?
2. What is "Show onto foot"?
3. What abilities should a good playmaker have beside creativity, passing and maybe teamwork? And what is the best way to use it (instructions)... And should i use a playmaker at all?
1. free role is for a player who is usually 'creative' should also have good attributes on 'off the ball' and 'positioning'.
usually u can look at a player in FMM to see if he can handle 'free role' its in the 'positions' area.
free role is for a player who fills up positions up front(usually a AMC). its a player who is slightly versatile. he has more freedom to move on the pitch.
2. show onto foot is simple. for an example, if a player is very strong right footer and bad on his left, then u might want ur defenders to 'open' the space for him to the left rather than the right.
3. i usually dont use a play maker, but if u play 'short' and 'slow' then u might want to have playmakers. but be aware they have to be good players.
as u said, creativity, passing and composure are the 'main' attributes. the other one could be 'off the ball' as he has to have good 'movement' and thats what 'off the ball' covers.
Thats because i use 4-2-3-1 and Modric is in AMC position and he is great 7 games,4 goals, 2 assists and avg.rating 7.89 so i thought if i put him in a free role he will be even better, and he has 16 free role (just checked in FMM), and what instructions? i put mentality attacking but not all the way, creative freedom much but not all the way, forward runs and runs with ball often, other is mixed... whats your oppinion?
1.free role is best used for players who are alone in they part of the filed such as sweepers DM and CM(only if there is one) AMC(combined with playmker) and ST(only if there is one ST).if a player has free role activated than he will not respect his position in the field and run all over the pitch.be careful when putting a player on free role.only the positions above are recomended to use free role.of course its all about your tactics, its not a rule to give the single strike a free role.it all depends on you.
2.its sounds familiar tbh=D.tell me where u found this term and i might be able to help u.
3.well....just look ar fabregas, gerrard, scholes, pele, maradona, hagi(why not)all of these players are playmakers or they can play as a playmaker.
creativity, passing, vision, versatilty(a playmaker must play on as many positions as possible) dribbling, flair(he must have imagination) and and why not... long shots.there are a few more but i have to enter the game to see them. i'll post again when i start the game.

with 3 AMC you could use the center AMC as a playmaker
I play with AMR AML and AMC, not three AMC...

through balls = often.
otherwise its perfect. giving him free role should be good as well.
if u see that on free role he is not doing that well, then give him less 'creative freedom'.
you should use 2 playmakers imo.
one of the playmakers should be the one who comes deep to collect the ball(like a DM or carrick type of player)
and the other playmaker should be the attacking midfielder, in ur case modric.
your playmaker should also have good 'decisions'

3.i wasent in the game but now i am and i can tell u the attributes that makes a good playmaker in my opinion:dribbling, first touch, free kicks(a playmaker must know how to score from a free kick..its not an important attribute but usualy the playmaker takes the free kicks), long shots(also not a basic playmaker attribute but still...), passing, technique, anticipation, creativity, decisions, flair, off the ball, positioning, team work and vision(u can find this attibute in the fm editor)
and ur playmaker should not be 'versatile'
he has to be agile='agility' and have good technique
