I started my journey into management with Udinese, I chose these for two reasons, firstly so I can get to know the italian league a little better as I never played there before and get a understanding of the co ownership the have over, and secondly I seen them as a good team to start off with as they are already in Europe plus they had a bit of money to spend.
I was there for only one season as i felt it was to much paperwork with co-ownership offers to sort out and having a massive team to keep happy made it a massive undertaking for little benefit, but I was determine to prove myself at an English club thats where Newcastle United caught my eye.
Newcastle United was at a very poor 21st in the Campionship under then boss Andre Villas-Boas, since I was in Italy for a year I have no idea how Newcastle went from mid table in the Premier League to 21st in the Championship in such a short period off time.
They had a brilliant manager a stong team and money to spend, but it seems Andre Villas-Boas could not manage the team or the players could not get out of a slump, it was to much for the Newcastle board who decided to sack Andre Villas-Boas on the 20-10-2012, but lucky for me as that was when I seen Newcastle and was thinking bout a new team.
I decided to put my name in the hat and go for the job as Newcastle is my favourite team and i think they will be a great team to improve and progress back into the Premier League and Europe.
how was andre villas boas there coach ?? did alan pardew get sacked ?
After a little look into Newcastle's
history i think i found out how Newcastle
have got to where they are now, to start off its looks like the Board
wanted Alan Pardew
out as he was sacked on the 20-12-2011 only 6 months into the job.
but when I looked into his transfer policy and seen the players he got in shows why he lasted only 6 months very poor choices, the stand out for me was the loan signing of Tony Hibbert
for a loan fee of £1.1m
also failed to make his mark by not selling to counter balance his transfers.
Then on the 25-12-2011 Newcastle decided to hire the talented AVB (Andre Villas-Boas), on paper looks like a terrific piece of business for Newcastle, but I believe that due to Alan Pardews nightmare stint at Newcastle it was to much for Andre Villas-Boas.
When looking at his achievements it seems he never got Newcastle to play very well, Knocked out of Fourth Round of The Fa Cup and First round of The Carling Cup, then a horrendous 19th finish in the Premier League to top it off, this got me thinking since I'm about to become manager what was the reasons for two high profile managers not able to get far with newcastle so i thought i will check Andre Villas-Boas transfers.
Looking at his transfers in detail it seemed he had a clear out of Newcastle's team which I thought was a step in the right direction after a very poor time with Alan Pardew in charge, Andre Villas-Boas got rid off players like Peter Lovenkrands, Danny Guthrie and Alan Smith which was great choices but he never bought players of any quality especially since he sold Yohan Cabaye to Tottenham for £12m he need to strengthen in the middle of the park since Cabaye was a vital part of the Newcastle squad.
After looking into great detail of the whole Newcastle team and finances i decided to take the job, i knew it would take a number of years to get Newcastle into the Premier league and to get this mess sorted out, so i agreed to a 5 year deal on £9,250 per week.
my first job was to make an impact on my team via the transfer market which was very busy as you can see below,
i made sure i bought a alot of decent under 18 players as i was going to be at Newcastle for the long run, my main target was a young player called Francis Thomas.
He looks very promising for the future as he is only 17 years old and already had 1 cap for France U21 Team, also he stats are looking good mainly 15- Heading, 16- Tackling, 18- Determination, 16 - Composure and 17- Jumping, everything I look for in a Centre Defender, but i had to pay 4m to get him from his currant club FC Sochaux-Montbeliard but I believe he will be worth 10m plus when he hits his prime.
Wow, nice regen! Good job on signing him
As you can also see on my transfer dealings i released Xisco and Ryan Taylor as they are useless at Newcastle and are a drain on my wage budget, but they hardly ever played for Newcastle in the past 2 Seasons under both Alan Pardew and Andre Villas-Boas.
The hardest descion to make was to sell Demba Ba and Fabricio Coloccini for only 1.5m altogether, but the problem i had was to keep them happy and wages where sky high for Championship club, the morale of both of them were terrible and they both wanted out so i got rid of them as soon as possible, which i think would be the best for the rest of the squad in the long run.
Also people like David Cotterill, Tresor Mputu and Eyong Enoh are not happy at Newcastle United and they are always complaining about under achieving even though i was only in the job a matter of months so decided not to keep them around as they are not the type of players i want at the club.
What you think of my first transfer window of my Newcastle journey?, bare in mind i have real trouble attracting top players to the club mainly because of my league table status.
You done very well, considering Newcastle got relegated and you took em over at 21st.
The youngster will become a world class player. You might wanna look at his training every few weeks.
yeah I'm going to keep a close eye on him his Personal information says he is labelled as the next Adil Rami if true makes me very happy.
I just finished my first season at Newcastle which showed me how difficult my job will be at Newcastle, i ended up 17th in the Championship but the next season will be my true first season as manager as i joined Newcastle about 10 games into the season and had no transfers of my own, so i decided to make my job that season to stay in the league and to stop Newcastle's downfall through the leagues.
It was very tough to get some consistency in my team as you can see the result are a mixed bag but far to many draws in the final stages of the season, but this give me a great insight on who i want to keep and who i want out, thats why i never made any transfer at all that season.
With my transfers completed for the start of my 2nd season the Newcastle squad is slowly starting to take shape but there is still a problem with a couple of players, one of them players is Sylvain Marveaux decent player but discipline towards me is terrible and he wants out, but my problem is nobody wants him apart from my League rivals Southampton which i make sure i don't sell to a team in the same league, i would love to sell him mainly to get 40k per week of my wage bill and i have adequate cove in my new signing Matt Jarvis but looks like I'm stuck with him till at least January Transfer Window.
7 games into the New Championship Season and this is how it shapes up:
i feel its an ok start to the season but my away form has let me down, 2-1 loss to reading and 0-0 draw at leicester are the stand out matches.
as you seen it was a pretty even game stats wise and we deserved a draw which away to Reading in this league would be a good result but we lost it 2-1 and Reading scored in the 92nd minute with left a sour taste in my mouth.
Newcastle also had a couple of poor performances from Alex Chaberlain(who i have on loan from Arsenal) and Tim Krul my goal keeper.
A small hiccup on my Journey my game never saved correctly as a result i need to replay my last matches against Barnsley and Tottenham, but will keep update on progress soon as i haven't been on over christmas.
good story so far UKgodfather. as im a newcastle supporter myself i would like to see u get them back where they belong ( premier league & europe )
must have been hard letting go of collocini and ba cause the latter is newcastles best striker.
give those toon army fans something to cheer about this year !!!!
