Steam Needs to be online to update, but was set to offline mode

Go to:
/Users/$yourusername/Library/Application Support/Steam/
and locate registry.vdf

Open registry.vdf with a text editor (e.g. Notepad) and find:

Registry / HKCU / Software / Valve / Steam /

Under Steam, find the line:

"Offline"    "1"

Change it to:

"Offline"    "0"

Save the file and try installing the game again.

A note for Mac users
In case the Library folder is hidden, you can go to the "GO" menu, select 'Go To Folder' and enter: ~/Library
You should now be able to see the Steam folder, and the registry.vdf file inside that.

hey im picturematic118 and my steam cant work.im trying to do every thing. i tried the ~/Library on the "go" and all i saw was steam. when i clicked on steam it said "steam needs to be online to update but was set to offline mode" and i need help. i wana play my games! please help.
