I have decided to start a game with Sunderland on FM12. The reasons for this are that Sunderland are a good mid table team with the potential in a few years to be competing in Europe. Also they have great current squad and backing from a generous owner.

My starting formations for this season are:
4-4-2 - GK,RB,CB,CB,LB,RM,CM,CM,LM,ST,ST
4-4-1-1- GK,RB,CB,CB,LB,RM,CM,CM,LM,CAM,ST
4-5-1 - GK,RB,CB,CB,LB,DM,CM,CM,RAM,LAM,ST

My aspirations for the season would be top-half finish. I was allocated a transfer budget of £7.75M (£7.75M Remaining) and a wage budget of £900K (£100k Remaining).
With this money I was planning on buying a left winger and possibly loan/buy a striker as according to my staff and my general perception of the team that is what I needed.

These are my pre-season friendlies:
(A) Stanraer
(H) Giordins Bordeaux
(A) Ayr
(A) Morton
(A) Northampton
(H) Borussia Dortmund
(H) Atletico Madrid
(H) Parma
Good first post, you have good pre-season games in Bordeaux,Dortmund,Atletico and Parma

Chris Brunt(west brom) is a good left winger
try loaning Macheda/Welbeck from United
Daniel Sturridge is a must buy i think he can be a top english talent if used correctly

Thanks for advice, I was thinking about loaning Welbeck, but I don't think Macheda is good enough for Premiership football. Chris Brunt is a great shout, but my scouts have found a player called Ludovic Obraniek who can play AM(RLC) and he has great stats plus he will be cheap as he is relatively unknown.

On another point, game against Atletico Madrid was scheduled to be played on TV but later got cancelled because of Atletico's Europa League draw which placed a game on that date.

Transfer News

Officialy signed
Type : Transfer
Name : Ludovic Obraniak.
Previous Club : Lille OSC
Transfer Value : £4.5M
Wage Value : £37.5K
Age : 26
Positions : AM(RLC)
Team Status : First Team Player
Clauses : None

This signing has covered my left wing problem and this player can provide back up for other positions, this transfer was also relatively cheap and he has good stats for a winger. Also he gave up Champions League football to join my team.
Transfer News

Type : Loan
Name : Danny Welbeck
Previous Club : Manchester United
Transfer Value : £750K
Wage Value : £8K (100%)
Age : 20
Positions : ST
Team Status : First Team Player
Clauses : Can Play in Cup Matches

This is a great addition for the club, he is good young striker who played for one of the top clubs in the league, exactly what my squad needed, a new striker, really cheap deal as it was a loan, and I know he will score goals. Also another player who gave up Champions League football for my team.
Pre-Season Friendy Results:

(A) Stanraer 0-2 (Mandron, Wickham)
(H) Giordins Bordeaux 2-3 (Bendtner, Sessegnon)
(A) Ayr 1-3 (Ji-Dong Won[2], Cook)
(A) Morton 0-5 (Welbeck, Obraniak, Ji-Dong Won, Turner, Mitchell)
(A) Northampton 0-3 (Tounkara, Brown, Mandron)
(H) Borussia Dortmund 3-3 (Ji-Dong Won[3])
(H) Parma 0-0

From these friendlies I was impressed with my teams performances especially against Borussia Dortmund & Morton, there was one blip against Giordins Bordeaux but that was expected as they are a higher quality team with European standard footballers . The one player who really stood out was obviously Ji-Dong Won, with his 6 goals, 3 of which were against Borussia Dortmund, he has proven to me he merits a stating place in our opening game of the season against (A) Wolves
Macheda is better than Wellbeck.

Do you hae any positions you need replacement?

KP: Zoet (RKC), Vermeer (Ajax)
Def: Van der Wiel (Ajax), Kieftenbelt (FC Groningen), Janmaat (SC Heerenveen)
Mid: Labyad (PSV), Tadic (FC Griningen), Overtoom; Armenteros (Heracles Almelo), maher (FC Utrecht)
Atk: De jong (FC twente), De jong (Ajax), Everton (Heracles), Dost (SC Heerenveen)

These all play in the Dutch league, and they won't be very expensive :)

At the current time I'm happy with the balance of my squad but thanks for the help, I will at the end of this season if all goes well will be looking to sign players of this standard such as Van der Wiel and De Jong.

Also in my experience of Football Manager I have found Macheda to be inconsistent at the begining but in the future he has progressed to be a clinical striker and since I just started this game with Sunderland I needed a player who was ready to make an instant impact, especially as I am looking for a season long loan that is why I picked Welbeck.
For this season I've choosen Lee Cattermole as my captain and Seb Larsson as my vice-captain, I picked Cattermole as he has the highest influence stat of anyone in my team and he will be in my starting regulary for my team. Larsson was chosen as he has a good influence stat but more the fact he will be starting 90% of my games and most the people with a higher stat were not regular starters.

I chose a pitch dimensions 102m by 66m as I had not really choosen a stratergy of play so I went for the standard length.

Good signing there bud, Obraniak plays well at left wing especially in my experience in my Lille save. He should be a good performer for you and will hopefully provide Welbeck and Ji-Dong Won with some useful ammunition to get the goals.

Also good choice on Captain, Cattermole does look useful in the role and he should lead your team on the field while you do your stuff off-field.

Good luck in your story mate, look forward to more updates.

Premiership

(A) vs. Wolves 13/08/11
(Doyle[3], Ebanks-Blake, O'Hara, Gardner, Welbeck[2])
MOM : Doyle

4-4-2 Mignolet, Brown, Turner, Bramble, Bardsley, Larsson, Cattermole, Gardner, Richardson, Ji-Dong Won, Welbeck.
Subs used : Angeleri, Obraniak, Sessegnon

Doyle started the scoring with a header from a cross, but as soon as we kicked off again Bardsley made a 40 yard pass to pick out Gardners run, who then scored. Doyle put Wolves back infront after a parry from the keeper. Welbeck equalised after a nice slid in pass from Gardner. Doyle completed his hattrick after a cool finish in a 1vs1 situation. Ebanks-Blake increased the lead after a shot from inside the box. Welbeck pulled one back after a mazy dribble and clinical finish, superb solo effort. O'Hara finished us off with a goal from a free kick.

This was a bad start to the season as Wolves dominated the game, but I'm positive that the team will bounce back. In this match their was no problem scoring goals but our defence was very poor, so I will try to sort this out in training. Welbeck had a great but unlucky game, he made 7 shots on target but Hennessey was just on form.

(H) vs. Fulham 21/08/11
(Halliche O.G., Bendtner[2])
MOM : Bendtner

4-4-2 Mignolet, Angeleri, Brown, Turner, Bardsley, Larsson, Cattermole, Gardner, Obraniak, Ji-Dong Won, Bendtner.
Subs used : El-Mohamady

We took the lead after a cross from Larsson which was deflected in by Halliche. Bendtner seized on the opportunity to put us two up after he poked in the rebound after Gardners long shot. Larsson then crossed it in, it was intercepted by a defender but Bendtner tackled him and put it away.

This was a great result after the first game which ended in defeat. I was particularly impressed with the defence after the shambles at the Molineux they kept a clean sheet. Though our best was in the final third as we took twice as many shots as Fulham and dominated possesion.
