I have being playing FM for the last two years, usually always went with the safe teams to manage, Man Utd,Barca,Celtic, the teams that will always be winning titles..so to set myself a new challange iv gone for Atletic Bilbao.As much as they have a talented squad the fact is that with them signing players can only go one way..they have to have basque nationality. This means no Rooney,Messi or Ronaldo can ever join my team.My target is to win cup competitions like the Spanish Cup and Europa League.Winning the Spanish league is going to be extremly hard due to the spending power of Barca/Real and i have to be realistic in my approach. If any1 has any tips or suggestions i would be very gratefull to hear them.
My suggestion would be to focus of the youth side, as in looking at your dilema, that is the only way to get good players, so if your youth facilities are not maxed out then max them out. Also almost never sell unless you have to as quality replacements are hard to find.
Other than that its an uphill challenge
to add to that dont forget that real socidad are a basque team too so there youth would be signable
So if my youth and training facilities are not world class ask the board to improve them?? Hopefully the fact that the players loyalty to the club is so strong i wont have to sell them,my intention is to have Llorente,Munian and Javi Martinez as one club players!
After 19 games I am in 6th place, 10 points off Barcelona who seem unstopable at the minute.
My biggest problem is Llorente..he cant seem to score..playing him as a target man as my coaches are telling me but the way he is playing reminds me of Andy Carroll!!!
you have them playing at his head? if his quality is heading, you should have him as target man and set "target man supply" to "head"
atleast its something to try, if you havent already.
Does he get to chances? was also thinking it's not only just the strikers fault, need someone to supply him too.
yeah, i had target supply to head and it wasnt working so i have it on mixed now. Iv even had to have the private chat with him 3 times that he needs to improve his form and each time he has agreed.
I am creating plenty of chances but my strikers are letting me down, even Munian only has 7 or 8 goals,hopefully its just a bad patch the team are going through,my aim was a top 8 finish so im still on course to achieve that.
dont forget that real sociedad is a basque team too even thou they dont have the transfer restriction as bilbao. so have a look at there players and youth as years go on
greizmann (spell check lol) is one to look at he plays for sociedad
yeah,I have scouted a few of Sociedad's players,hopefully the fact Bilbao are there main rivals wont put off some of the players joining me in the future.
After 22 games I am in 4th place.
Played 22, won 12, drawn 4, lost 6.
Best result of the season came against Real Madrid. 2-0 down and with Llorente sent off I somehow came back to win 3-2.

from the start i got almunia (free) , Azpilicueta (10 mill) re training as LB for cover, Alvero Vadillo (only 16 though, 4.5 mill), so far so good , 3 clean sheets from 3 games , including Real Madrid (away), but the emphasis has to be on developing your younglin's , and if you request upgrade youth training during early days, they will , with a bit of insistence. and also i like to play lorrente as D.L.F (attack) rather then C.F or T.M generally, so that the team don t pass to directly to him and this allows him to float about with his back to goal ,meanwhile keeping the ball moving with short passes , in my 4-5-1 very fluid system. so satisfying managing Athletic Bilbao , no ego's , you can probably tell i m enjoying this challenge lol GL
