about to start online

i want to play with a friend and we can't do it.
we are connected via hammachi.
1) i have the original copy and he does not. (is this the problem?)
2)when we are connected via hammachi there is a yellow mark problem talking about a problem with vpn... is this important?
3)i have the 12.2.0 version and he have the 12.0.1 version... whick version we have to get for playing?
4) i don't know plz help us
