We are still second in the table with 53 points. I have changed tactics for the last two games and we have scored a few goals so I am happy with that! McGugan has had a good start with 4 assists already. The loss at Tottenham , while not surprising, was a bit gutting because we were 1-0 up after 79 minutes, and then we conceded 3 very quickly as Defoe came to the party. Next year, when it looks like we may be in the Prem, we may be able to mount a challenge.

A pretty good month as we now close to withing 5 points of Southampton at the top of the table. A particularly annoying result was the 1-1 draw at Watford as Jermaine Easter, the man I let go at the start of the season as he was deemed surplus to requirements, scored a 92nd minute equaliser- and my gosh was it a worldie! We had dominated that match, and it was a chance to close even further on Southampton as they had lost earlier in the day. Ah well, all is currently good at Selhurst Park and Pedroza is on fire!

Next update end of March 12.

New Youth Intake: WOW

So we have reached the date where new youth players are taken on by clubs in England, and I have been incredibly surprised by who has come through: from only having the youth facilities/recruitment etc, we have taken on three 3.5 stars, one 4 star and one 5 star potential player, which I am very happy about. I am also now searching the rest of Europe as the regens began to be introduced in a bid to find the next generation to lead Crystal Palace to the top.

1. Crystal Palace, +44, 82
2. Southampton, +51, 81

22. Portsmouth, -15, 33
23. Millwall, -33, 32
24. Doncaster, -72, 18.

With six games left, we hit the top of the league, ahead by a point. Lots of goals and into the semi finals of the FA Cup against Brighton, with the other one being Bolton versus West Brom. I am confident of reaching the final, and I suggest we could win the Cup as well. Doncaster are now relegated- they have conceded 100 goals?!?!??!?! HORRIFIC! Pedroza continues to over achieve what his stats suggest he should- but I am not going to complain!

Next update end of April 2012.

What a Player

Max Talbot

This is probably the best kid who has been brought through in the latest youth intake, and he looks like he could be a world beater- even if he is northern irish ;)- and he has a 5 star potential according to my staff. I will be giving him a bit of a go in pre season to see if he has enough about him to be in the first team picture next year...

Next update soon.
good story mate looking forward to next instalment :)

We got to top spot with at the start of the month, and we won the league with two games to spare as Southampton had a shocking end to the season. I was disappointed to lose in the Cup Semi Final, but I am still ecstatic that we won the League- a remarkable achievement for a side who the media believed would reach 14th place in the npower Championship. Southampton finished 2nd, and Blackpool got promoted after winning the play offs from 6th position. I have agreed some transfers already, but I shall post them later, as well as an end of season review.
congrats on promotion :)

Crystal Palace Review

The 2011/12 season was a superb one for Crystal Palace as they secured the npower Championship title to ensure their return to the Premier League for the first time since 2005. In addition, The Eagles were in competition in the domestic cups until the latter stages. In a season where the media predicted that Palace would finish 14th in the League, new manager Joe Smith used the loan market and made shrewd acquisitions to steer his team to the title, but one player who shone unexpectedly was there before he joined. Young striker Antonio Pedroza got his chance after the first choice strikers got injured and/or suspended, and scored two on debut, and after that he never looked back, finishing the season with 17 goals from 30 matches. Here are the rest of the stats for the season which Palace fans will look back on with fondness for many years.

Top Goalscorers
1. Wilfried Zaha, 20

2012/13 Season Expectations

Board Expectations Avoid Relegation
My Expectations Avoid Relegation
Transfer Budget £10.5m

So, the season expectations are in and the board along with the media do not expect much from Crystal Palace this season, with the media suggesting that we will struggle to survive in the Premier League, with odds of 2000-1 on us to win the league leading me to think that they are right.

But I am hoping a few shrewd signings to improve the squad and a good team spirit will lead us to maybe 17th position in the league. Unfortunately, the fact that the media thought that last season we would finish 14th suggests that the squad was not good enough be of a high quality in the Championship, let alone in the best league in the world, the Premier League. This, in addition to the expiry of all of the loan contracts I brought in last season, means that I must bring in a lot of players, as I was only left with 14 first team players left in the squad. Now, I do not like operating with a big squad as I believe it damages harmony, but even I acknowledge that 14 is nowhere near enough! I am hoping to get 21-24 players in my first team squad this year, and I am prepared to use the loan market.

While I want to build a team for the future, I am not naive enough to think that I don't need experience to survive here.

So that is the intro to the season, and I shall post again shortly.

Transfers

So, with the promotion to the Premier League, I have had to bring in a fair few players, so here are the first team signings:

IN

Michu

With a £1.3m release clause and with my scouts thinking that he would be a 'good signing for most Premier League clubs', I couldn't really say no. Last season, in real life, he was prolific for Vallecano in La Liga, and has just signed for Swansea. I hope he will get me a few goals from midfield this season.

Jacob Butterfield

This was a deal which I agreed at the start of last season, as I didn't think I would be getting promoted this year. Nevertheless, I will give him a go in the big time after he joined from Barnsley for £2.6m. A good young player, hope he does well.

Mohamed Diame

Brought in from Wigan for £1.3m (transfer listed and a release clause?!), Diame will be my first choice defensive midfielder this year. He is one of a few central midfielders I have brought in due to the expiries of last seasons loanees, and he is top quality and a real tough guy- even if he is wearing tights in the picture.

Keiron Westwood

Speroni is old, and Westwood is better. Nuff said, £2.5m.

Victor Moses

A former Crystal Palace favourite, Moses was very keen to join the club after Wigan got relegated. Joined for £7m and I think he will be a superb signing.

Robert Acquafresca

Joined on loan for £500k with an option to buy for £800k, he was prolific last season in Italy and I hope Acquafresca will get the goals to fire me to safety this year, along with my other signings and Zaha. He has impressed in pre season so far.

Alessandro Gamberini

It was either him or Hangeland after Fulham got relegated, but Gamberini cost £1.5m as opposed to £8m for the big Norwegian. A very strong centre half, the Italian is looking like a first team cert.

Frazier Campbell

Another striker in to bolster the front line, he joins on a years loan for £400k and £2.2m future clause. Not first choice, but still going to feature a lot.

Bongani Khumalo

The fourth centre half in the squad, Khumalo won't be first choice but I intend on giving him a fair bit of game time this year after the South African joined from Tottenham on a permanent deal after he had a two week trial and impressed in two friendlies against the reserves.

Orlando Sa

Another striker joins from the relegated Fulham, Sa looks impressive in pre season.

OUT

Glenn Murray to Southampton, £1.7m
Paddy McCarthy to Bristol City, £1.2m
Darren Ambrose to Wolves, £1.9m
Lewis Price to Middlesbrough, £75k
+
A lot of youth players- including the incredible Max Talbot, who has headed to Championship side Sheffield United.

The season starts shortly, with the first game being at home to Chelsea.

Next update will be a list of the pre season results, and then an August review.
