Success with fluid philosophies supposedly depends on your players having the skills. It gives more options, attacking and defending is done more as a team but it means, for example, if you have players who don't feel like defending, you'll be more exposed, or if the players don't see an opponent attack developing they'll be out of position, etc. Rigid means they stick more to your instructions - "you five have the defensive responsibilities" and they really will. Those are the theories. With my club teams, I'm always trying to recruit players with anticipation, creativity, etc. so I set the team instruction on fluid and leave it there and it works. But in other situations - new club that's more limited, national team where the player pool is weak and of course you can't go recruit outside - I'd tend more towards the rigid end of the scale - trying balanced first and if it doesn't work going to rigid. But it is theory - haven't had a lot of games where I don't just set "fluid" since this tactical system was introduced.
