So we're going to have a director of football position I see. What do people think of this? Looks like they've left it flexible enough that you can choose what they do, as opposed to the real life evolution of the position where it's a loss of power for the manager. (in American sport, most organizations have a General Manager who is a more powerful person in the club than the Manager, essentially is the Manager's boss, and it seems some big European are starting to drift closer to that model).
This director position seems just like an assistant manager to me. In real football a director of football would oversee the manager i think - not do his work for him? - I am confused by this to be honest.
Yeah it seems like SI have made the director of football more like another assistant. While I can see this is not true to the real world I think SI wanted to keep the game where you are in full control. After all who would want to manage at a club if you didn't have control of what players were signed/sold or what contracts were renewed/allowed to expire?
I think it's a good idea.

It is easy to see in just black and white on the subject and decide that it's merely another assistant manager with a different title. However, I and many others select assistants according to specific statistics such as their tactical knowledge and coaching, man management and motivating. An assistants performance works within the formula of their stats against the teams potential minus the process losses.

The idea of a director of football, given that it is an option and not a necessity should be embraced. They, if we are to implement them at our clubs during our careers will again go through a similar process of selecting them by their statistics. Again like an assistant managaer (and other staff,) I like to think that a director of football's performance will work within the formula of their stats against the process losses, with whichever tasks they are given.

As an example, I quickly started up a game knowing Man Utd won't have a director of football and advertised the job for the club. Amongst the options were Frank Arnesen and Eric Cantona. On 2 seperate saves I could hire each of them and decide they will look after recruiting youth players. Overall, Frank Arnesen and his superior stats and experience should perform far better than Eric Cantona.

The same should (hopefully) be said for any other tasks delegated.

It's easy to say that with experience these games are easy to manage and navigate but this is a complicated game with so many variables, and it's getting more difficult. Even despite the ability to delegate tasks to anyone within the club to take off the work load and make it seemingly easier, somewhere disaster can, and probably will strike for us all. And to me, that makes the game as exciting and unpredictable as the real thing.
