fmscout.com is officially in public beta, which includes a brand new design built from scratch, extended functionality, increased usability and a few exciting new features.
I'll continue to refine it with tweaks and new additions in the next few weeks.

This is the thread you can use to share your remarks about this new version. Good or bad I want them anyway, especially the bad will help me apply useful improvements. I'll be considering all remarks without any bias, but please try to be constructive. We all want this place to get better, right?

Looking forward to reading your comments here.

Absolutely mindblown! Well done Stam!
Love it. Everything looks nicer for me. The forum, and general layout really impressed me.

love it
Fantastic, really good!

Navigates well and there are some good improvements. Cannot fault at the moment!
First off, the site looks good with a much needed face lift.

A couple of things I notice right away:

- Charts -> Top Downloads -> sends me back to the homepage

- "Top 100 Most Viewed Topics - All Time" info is wrong, shows as an example my story having 3,345 while in reality it has 30,509.

- The headline banners, the red ones from the

code is gone, has just become a different sized text now witch is already a code for. changed the whole story I got going at the moment.

- Feel the manager stories on the front page has disappeared a little, is my initial view of it. will see when I get more used to it.

Will write more later on.
Well done stam! The new site looks really good! Keep up the good work!
Homepage seems crammed up but surprisingly, One doesn't get confused or lost or anything! Brilliant site, brilliant creator, brilliant members. Hope this stays for an additional 5 years!
I love the new layout and how easy and fast it us to get around. Well done Stam and the wider FM Scout community.
Thanks for your kind words guys, I appreciate your support. It drives my motivation forward to keep trying harder and I will. You can expect the addition of new features (mostly minor but some major too) roughly every other day.

As for ejay's remarks, I've addressed them already :)

The new site is fine, just a bit easier to get around, which makes it worth it.

The main complaint is the same I have with the old one, and in fact with just about every other "board" layout I've seen, so it's nothing to do with the redesign: the use of a fixed width display area. I use a big screen and for reasons to do with other websites, a wide browser window too, and the fact that things don't scale to match that is irritating - instead have to look at certain things squeezed (like when images don't get scaled quite right) at the same time as I'm looking at these gaping wide gutters with nothing in them....

You can always use your browser's zoom. I have tested zooming to work fine up to 175%. Try it and let me know. Keyboard shortcut for zooming is pressing "Ctrl" with "+" as many times as you need to zoom in, and to zoom out use the "-" key with "Ctrl".
Sure, that fills in the borders by making everything bigger, but doesn't actually take advantage of more space by displaying longer lines.

The thing is you can't really fit more information efficiently, so you'll just have backgrounds and lines spreading out. Is that worth it?
I would love to see an example of a site using fluid width efficiently in your opinion though.
Looks good :)
