AFC Fiorentina: A Brief History

AFC Fiorentina, who are professional Italian club playing in Serie A, were founded in 1926. The club are based at the Atremio Franchi stadium and boast good training facilities and average youth facilities. The club also has an above average junior coaching set up in conjunction with an above average youth recruitment network.

The club is affectionately known by its fans as Viola and their fans are at their loudest when their team come up against their fiercest rivals Pisa and Juventus.


The club enjoyed their greatest spell of success in Italian football during the 1960s. Viola boast having a total of 15 competitions with the highlights seeing them be runners-up in the former named Champions Cup and 1957. The club also won the Italian top division in 1956 and 1969 and they are five-time runners up. 1961 saw AFC Fiorentina winning the Cup Winners Cup and they also finished runners up in the former named EURO Cup in 1990.

AFC Fiorentina: The Modern Game


Jim White: In the modern game, no-one’s job is safe and this is the same of Vincenzo Montella’s job at AFC Fiorentina; he has been in charge of AFC Fiorentina since 11th June. A month has only just past and he has had his contract terminated with immediate effect.

Vicky Gomersall: It has been reported that there was a disagreement between the board of directors and Montella. We have had news passed onto us that the reasons behind the termination of his contract is based on high profile signings that Montella had taken upon himself to confirm without the board’s permission.

Jim White: AFC Fiorentina will now be looking to find a replacement as quick as possible. Rumours have already starting circulating that Carlo Ancellotti is the fans favourite to take over at the club.

AFC Fiorentina: The Club Get Their Man


Jim White: It has been confirmed by AFC Fiorentina that they have offered their vacant manager’s job to a unknown, English born manager called James Gallagher.

Vicky Gomersall: It has been reported that James Gallagher ticked all the criteria the board of directors had set and he was extremely eager to get involved in club management. Well what do we know about the unknown man?

Jim White: The man has not managed at any level. He was born in England but thankfully for him and the board of directors he does speak fluent Italian. This will surely help him settle into working with the staff and the players on his first day, which we have heard is to be tomorrow. Apart from this he is,like we said, unknown in the world of management.

A Meeting with the Chairman

Andrea Della Valle: James, please do come and sit down. Let me start by welcoming you to the club. I will shortly hand you over to your assistant manager, Daniele Russo who wants to discuss team policy business, I wanted to assure you have the full backing of the board and we wouldn’t have hired you if you weren’t the right person for the club.
James Gallagher: Thank you for the warm welcome and for taking the time out to talk to me, you must be busy. I must say I am looking forward to working with this club and helping them get back to achieving big things.

Andrea Della Valle: AFC Fiorentina is a club with a lot of history and it is history that we are proud of. The fans really appreciated the manager of the club having a good knowledge of the club. Would you like me to emailing you a detailed overview of the club’s history?
James Gallagher: Well it may come as a surprise to you but I do like to think I am familiar with the club’s history. This was a job that I was desperate to get so took it upon myself to do a bit of research of my own before accepting the job.

Andrea Della Valle: Well that is lovely to hear and it is reassuring to know you are looking to put in hard work even in your time away from the stadium and training ground. Let’s move onto expectations of you and the team this season. I and board of directors feel that the club need to be finishing in the top half of the league. In order to assist you in achieving this we have provided you with a wage budget of £601k and a transfer budget of £3.74m
James Gallagher: Those expectations are achievable in my opinion but I cannot hide my disappointment in the low transfer budget. Is there any chance that this could be increased to help me and the team achieve our goals?

Andrea Della Valle: Unfortunately at the moment, no. We need to be looking towards the future so need to make sure the finances of the club are stable and we don’t go blowing the club’s money on players. We feel that the players and staff you have are adequate to achieve the expectations we have set you.
Now it is tradition for any new manager to hold a press conference to meet the media. Would you like me to set one up for you?
James Gallagher: Yes. I think it would be good for me to meet the journalist considering all the attention my appointment seems to be attracting in the footballing world.

Andrea Della Valle: Well that is brilliant to hear. I will get right to it. Thanks for coming to see me on such short notice but I don’t want to be holding you up any longer. Thank you for coming to the meeting and I am sure we will speak soon.
 James Gallagher: Thank you again for this opportunity. Goodbye for now.
