The decision to coach a team in France was more of my wife’s than mine; she was totally taken by the sights and sounds of Paris.
So, when I got the call from the Chairman of OM, Vincent Labrune, asking me if I was ready to get back into management, the answer was a straight yes. As you would imagine, my wife wasn’t at all disturbed by the thought of me working in another city.
I was fresh from a 9 year break and I was eager to get back into management. The previous manager Jean-Guy Wallame helped the team to the 4th position in the Ligue 1, thereby sealing a spot for the team in the European Cup Competition.
I accepted the job with the goal of achieving at least a European Champions cup qualification i.e. I had to achieve a top 3 position in the Ligue 1.
I had been out of management for a while so i had to update my knowledge in the World’s Football.
When I thought about the fact that my favorite footballer only won the World’s Golden ball once in his career and his rival Messi had been winning it nonstop for 11 years except for the year 2014 when his teammate Cesc Fabregas won it, I felt extreme sadness and joy at the same time. Sadness that Ronaldo never won it again and Joy that I got to witness the magic known as Lionel Messi.

Brief Introduction to Olympique de Marseille

Olympique de Marseille commonly known as L’OM, was founded in 1899. Its stadium is known as Stade Velodrome, it is a 67000 all-seater stadium in very good condition, with undersoil heater, and grass surface, its dimensions are 105m by 68m. Olympique de Marseille has Top Training Facilities, Average youth facilities, Average Youth Coaching and Above Average Youth Recruitment.
They enjoy a fierce rivalry with Paris Saint-Germain, Olympique Lyonnais and Montpellier Herault SC.
They also have two derbies;
Sud Derby( versus OGC Nice) and Classico Derby(versus Paris Saint-Germain).
I hope My Adventure In Marseille turns out to be as romantic as Paris.
Not seen many French stories, good luck!

Squad Review

L’OM has a pretty decent squad. What really attracted them to them was their average squad age of just 26, although I will be looking to reduce that.
Like I said I have a pretty decent team but as always there were some standout players:
Fernando Bertello

Pirulito

Charles Kabore although he is already 32

Steve Mandanda although he is already 35

The team squad list (with assistant report)

After completely reviewing the squad I discover that we need a very good centre back and a super Striker.

Financial Matters

I was given a transfer budget of €31,000,000, and a wage budget of €200,000. I was relieved to find out the club had no outstanding loans, which means any money earned will be for the team, so another aim is to keep the team from going bankrupt but the two players I was going to buy had to be quality and young, so they will really cost me meaning I had to sell some players from my team.

My Transfer Targets

Hamdi Jabeur : he is a 4 and ½ star rated striker and he is 21 with very very sick stats(sorry did not snap a SS of this guy but when I get back after I have bought him, hopefully) I’ll post an ss. My scout told me I can get him from 9.5m to 14m.

Wallace: Here’s a SS of the guy

Juan Rolando Mendoza : My alternate striker if the Jabeur deal falls through

Hopefully I can get them and sell a few players to get some of the money back
Ah, a story in 2020.

The Tactics

After reviewing the squad over and over again I came up with 2 formations

4-1-2-1-2

This formation is more of a defending/counter-attacking one for away matches
The side midfielders help in supporting the defenders when defending and also help the attackers when attacking.

4-1-1-2-2

This is an attacking formation meant for use during home matches, it utilizes two wingers who are meant to occupy the left/ right backs and then feed the ball to the strikers to finish the Job.
Love that it's set a few years on, best of luck I'll be following

Transfers

I bought 6 players totaling €46million and sold 12 players to €25.5million. The Players I bought are as follows;
Jabeur Hamdi: My Super Striker Finally came to my club for €11million, I really really hope he’ll deliver well for the club, here’s a screenshot of him….finally

Wallace: I bought my defender for €15million have already posted screenshot so i don't think there's any need for that again.

These are the rest of the transfers in

And their screenshots
David O’Connolly; A very young right winger with bags of potential

Okafor Micheal: A young Nigerian left winger, I have to say I bought him mainlybecause he was a Nigerian and he was also quite good

Mustafa Suna: A young central midfielder who is already good for his age hope he’ll add a bit of depth to the squad

Kamanzi Jeannot: I discovered, during the pre-season that Mandanda wasn’t as good as I thought, so I brought in a new young good cheap keeper

Let’s see how they do during the pre-season.

Pre-Season

OM 5-0 Granada (Jordan Ayew x2, Hamdi Jabeur x2, Austin Etuhu)
OM 1-2 AS Saint-Etienne (Jordan Ayew)
OM 1-1 At. Madrid (Gianneli Imbula)
OM 4-1 CSKA Moscow (Loic Remy x3, Jordan Ayew)
OM 2-3 Inter (Hamdi Jabeur, Mohamed Jbara)
FC Zwolle 0-2 OM (Allan, Jordan Ayew)
OM 3-0 NAC Breda (Jordan Ayew, Hafid Akrour, Loic Remy)

Review of the Pre-Season

We had a pretty decent pre-season, as you can see scoring 18 goals and conceding 6 goals. Hamdi, my new super striker, scored 3 goals. While Jordan Ayew really impressed me with 6 goals and Loic Remy, that I sold, scored 5 goals.
The game Against Saint- Etienne was lost because of fatigue; I fielded basically an U-18 team and was rightly punished for it.
The game against Inter was lost because my keeper problems were exploited savagely, I lost a two goal lead because of 3 very terrible errors from Mandanda.

Next Update: First Ligue 1 Match as Manager of OM

We are here today to witness Daniel’s first game in management, we have

Formations and Line-ups

Commentary from Jim Beglin
10min: Allan kept the ball moving, Mustafa Suna hit the ball on the half volley but it was no problem for Reynet

15min: Mohamed Jbara backed into and fouled Mohammed Lawal, it was a dubious decision, Lawal lined up the free kick, Lawal flighted in the free kick and Steve Mandanda saved and held the ball.

21min: Ibrahim Bamba centred the ball; Maldonado attempted a half volley from a tight angle, MALDONADO SCCORED FOR DIJON FCO!!!!

34min: Hamdi Jabeur had space to move into, he passed to Connolly, Connolly dribbled with the ball and gave a nice pass to Ayew but Reynet pushed it towards his own net…….Maldonado came just soon enough to send it behind

45min: Fernando Bertello sent a superb pass towards Jabeur, he picks it up and moves towards a dangerous position, he let loose a super shot and Reynet just had enough on him to push it away
H.T: 1-0

62min: Suleiman was with the ball, he passed the ball Bertello who dribbled a bit before sending an excellent ball across the face of goal, Ayew was at the right place at the right time and SCORED FOR OM!!

65min: Arkadiy Malofeev cut inside with the ball and gave a nice little pass to Oh Jang-Eun and Oh Jang-Eun, fortunately Mandanda saved and held the ball.

86min: Hamdi Jabeur ran with the ball, and then played a wonderful pass for Etuhu, Etuhu sent a delicious cross into the centre of the 18 yard box, Hamdi had the beating in the air of Frunza, AND HE SCORED THE WINNING GOAL FOR OM!!!!!!!

DANIEL HAS WON HIS FIRST LEAGUE GAME IN CHARGE OF OLYMPIQUE DE MARSEILLE!!!!!!!

OM 2-1 ESTAC Troyes Ligue 1 8.8.2020

OM (4-1-1-2-2): Kamanzi, Bertello, Wallace, Jbara,
Pirulto, Suleiman, Suna, Connolly, Etuhu, Ayew, Jabeur .

Subs Used: Michael Okafor for Etuhu (79)

Goals: Jordan Ayew(40) and Jbara(45)

MOTM: Hamdi Jabeur.

It was an interesting encounter, going behind at first then coming from behind to seal the game, all in the first period. In the second half we had a lot of chances but finishing was poor
We also had 7 yellow cards which was a bit much, so, I will be speaking to the lads about it.

AS Saint-Etienne 0-2 Olympique de Marseille Ligue 1 16.18.2020

OM (4-1-2-1-2): Kamanzi, Bertello, Die, Jbara,
Pirulto, Suleiman, Suna, Connolly, Okafor, Ayew, Jabeur

Subs Used: Albert Mbamba for Victor Suleiman (45), Etuhu for Okafor (66), Allan for Fernando Bertello(72)

Goals: Jabeur(37), Ayew(90+3)

MOTM: Jabeur

It was a very interesting match, with me at the edge of my seat till Ayew sealed victory for me at the very last minute of the game. I had 5 one too many yellow cards which is still one too many.

I was drawn in the Euro Cup 4th Qualifying round against Sampdoria, we are underdogs for the match but I have a feeling we might be able to upset those odds.

Sampdoria versus OM Euro Cup 4th Qual. Rnd Leg 1 20.8.2020

Live Commentary by Jim Beglin the Formation this Marseille side is about to utilize is that of a false nine, the Manager of the team told the Journalists before the match that his two strikers and most of his squad were called for international duty, so he is about to field a very depleted squad with 3 U-19s forced to make their debut appearances for the squad. I think it’s safe to say that a draw might be asking too much from this OM side.

Line Up and Formation

K.O

13min: Suna got free of all defenders and aimed a brilliant shot at the top corner…..GOALLLL!!!! but it was ruled out for offside.

20min: Etuhu sent a lovely ball ahead of Suna, he made himself some space, AND SCORED FOR OM!!!!! His First ever goal for OM!!! This time it was awarded

48min: Salluce got the ball first, went forward and laid it to Suleiman, he then passed along the floor for Suna to pick it up, Suna dribbled Alessandro, went free of all defenders, entered the penalty area AND SCORED AN INCREDIBLE GOAL FOR OM, HIS SECOND OF THE GAME!!!!!

HT: A very interesting first half here 2 goals from team without a striker, let’s hope we have another interesting in stored for us in the 2nd half

FT: We call full time on a very boring 2nd half here. Amazingly the underdogs, further weakened by the loss of majority of their first team players manage to steal victory thanks to a sensational performance from their false 9 Suna!!!

MOTM: Suna
