Chelsea have announced they have parted company with Di Matteo

Chelsea have today announced the sacking of yet another manager. Just days after there UEFA Champions League success, trigger happy owner Roman Abramovich has deemed the Italian surpless to riquirments at Stamford Bridge.
The club announced on its Twitter account that they had parted company with the Italian and shortley afterwards released a statement, stating that although results had been good they would be announcing a new manager shortley.
Chelsea’s statement read: “Chelsea football club have this morning parted company with manager Roberto Di Matteo. The team’s recent performances and results have been good and above expectations, however the owner and the board feelt a change was necessary to keep the club moving in the right direction.
“The club faces a difficult season ahead in qualifiying for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League as well as maintaing a strong challenge for the Premier League while competing in four other competions. Our aim is to remain as competitive as possible and challenge strongly on all fronts.
It continued: “The board and owner would like to thank Roberto for what he has done and achieved at the club since taking over in March. Roberto helped us to an historic Champions League victory and seventh FA Cup. We will never forget the huge contribution he has made to the club’s history and he will always be welcomed back to Stamford Bridge.
“The club will be will make an annoucment shortley regarding a new first team manager.”
Di Matteo took charge of Chelsea in March after they sacked Andre Villa-Boas, and had only signed a contract until the end of the season. Di Matteo went of the rescue the club’s failing Champions League campaign by going on to beat Bayern Munich in the final on the home team’s back yard. Having already secured Chelsea’s seventh FA Cup trophy.
Chelsea have already sounded out Rafael Benitez to determine whether he would be willing to take over at Stamford Bridge. It seems that former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola is first choice, if he can be tempted back to work after stating he wanted a year-long sabbatical in May.
With Guardiola the favourite the take over from Di Matteo on a permanent basis. There are other names in the mix that include the likes of former manager’s Jose Mourinho, Guus Hiddink and Avram Grant. As well as former players, such as Gus Poyet, Andriy Shevchenko, Gianfranco Zola and Steven Musk.
