September Round-Up
In September we played 6 games , 4 in the league , 1 in Europe and 1 in the Capital One Cup. This month was a poor month were we only one 2 games and had a couple of injuries. These were the results.
Our first game of September saw QPR visit St James’ Park. 5 minutes into the game Demba Ba flicked the ball onto the left wing to Davide Santon , he then crossed the ball to Demba Ba whose header hit the bar before going in. The game finished this way and the only positive of a boring second half was Kadlec coming on as a substitute and looking promising.
Next up was Man United and a game that meant something to me personally as I’m a Liverpool fan. Unfortunately it took only 6 minutes for van Persie to put them infront then on the half hour mark Nani added another. Rooney then volleyed home to make it 3-0 at half time. An Ashley Young tap in and an own goal from Steven Taylor then made it 5-0 and his miserable afternoon got worse when he was sent off for violent conduct. Pappiss Cisse then scored for us before Michael Carrick made it 6-1. A terrible day was made even worse when Demba Ba fractured his wrist and will be out for 6-7 weeks.
The opening game of Group D saw Feyenoord visit St James’s Park and hopefully a chance to bounce back after being demolished by United. It didn’t start well as Graziano Pelle, Guyon Fernandez and an own goal by Vurnon Anita made it 3-0 all in the first half an hour. Right on half time Cheik Tiote smashed a shot past the Feyenoord keeper. Pappiss Cisse then made the most of a great through ball my Nathan Redmond and kept his composure to make it 3-2 but it was too little too late for a comeback.
Villa were our next opponents and after 18 minutes Pappiss Cisse scored the opener from the edge of the box. Kadlec then scored his 1st goal for the club to make it 2-0. Christian Benteke then tapped in a rebound from a Darren Bent shot to pull one back for the visitors.
The 3rd round of the Capital One Cup faced us against Wigan in a game we should be winning. Mauro Boselli put Wigan ahead after 36 minutes and this was the score at half time. A Danny Simpson mistake let Boselli get his 2nd and put the game out of our reach. The team were disappointing in this game and I can’t see us scoring without Cisse or Ba on the pitch.
The final game of the month was Fulham and with Cisse and Ba both out I was expecting much. After 9 minutes Berbatov scored a volley for Fulham and it seemed to be going like many other games this season. Vaclac Kadlec had different ideas though and he rounded the keeper to equalize. Poor marking from Coloccini then let Petric through on goal and allowed him to make it 2-1. In injury time Coloccini got sent off for a 2nd yellow card.
I am disappointed with all these results as I think we are a much better team than we are showing at the moment. I also fancied winning some silverware this year so know we will have to put some more focus in the Euro Cup or FA Cup.
League Table
This is a disappointing league position but it is still early days and hopefully by the next update we will be further up. I am currently bottom of the Euro Cup group after only one game being played.
Thanks for reading and please leave a comment on any advice etc.
