After retiring from football as a player for Los Angeles Galaxy at the end of the 2010-11 season,Beckham, still passionate about the game he loves, decide to take up a managerial position. He became the coach for the Arsenal reserves to hon his managing skills and manage to win the FA youth cup with his reserve team.......
"ARSENE WENGER QUITS ARSENAL!" was the headline of all sporting magazines on 15 July 2012,and that's the big break that Beckham was waiting for.The Arsenal board decides to give Beckham a chance at the highest level after impressing as the reserve team coach.
"David, can we trust you to take this team to greater heights?" was the first question Peter Hill-Wood asked after inviting Beckham to have a sit.Beckham was really nervous and after a long "interrogation" session, where he was asked about his passion for the club(he was a Tottenham trainee) and what he could bring to the club, his dream came true.He got a one year contract worth £86000 a week and he was given a £35000000 to transform his club for a title challenge.David's dream came true, his first managerial job and he became the Arsenal manager!!He was tasked with making the club play attacking and possession football.
Beckham drove his Bentley out of his new London house the next day at 7am,hoping to arrive at Arsenal's training ground at Shenly,Hertforshire at 8am,little did he know that his staff members would be earlier than him and most would be asking for mutual termination of their contract after finding out Arsene left.Beckham went up to them and tried to persuade them to stay, almost pleading with them,as he knew that some of the coaches and staffs are the best in the business, such as Steve Bould, his assistant coach that used to play for Arsenal. He managed to persuade them and they discussed about their tactics, who should leave and who should go.After much discussion, they decided that they should concentrate on young players, following Arsene's legacy and they are ready to let some of the senior players leave after seeing their performance in the match against Arsenal reserves,Beckham's old team the next day!
And Beckham answered all the questions posted to him in the press interview, with some interesting ones like "How would you feel if you are up to your old club,Man Utd and your ex-manager,Sir Alex?""Just like its any team, but I'll certainly have some respect for Sir Alex" said Beckham. And he decided the team to use against his old team, knowing them inside-out,with pacy winger Walcott on the right and the last man Wenger recruited,Lukas Podolski on the left.
What a start to his days as Arsenal manager!Arsenal dominated the match from the beginning til the end and broke the deadlock when Arteta scored a magnificent goal with his outer foot after Podolski's shot was deflected.Podolski scored his goal shortly after with a brilliant run into a box before unleashing an unstoppable shot up the top right corner of the net.Dallison scored a bullet header as consolation for Arsenal reserves deep into the second half.Fantastic first match as the boss!
