Warnock Walks Out On Freefalling Whites

http://u.goal.com/172800/172897hp2.jpg

Takeover talk has finally taken it's toll on Leeds United manager Neil Warnock. Having not been updated on a regular basis about the proposed takever from representatives of Dubai-based holding firm GFH Capital, Warnock has been left in the dark recently with regards to the running of the club he had hoped to transform over the summer. He was left with no money to spend from chairman Ken Bates and this resulted in the sale of two of the club' best players- they lost Robert Snodgrass to Norwich (seemingly a feederclub for Leeds) and Adam Clayton to Simon Grayson's Huddersfield.

Warnock has yet to release a statement whilst the club have also remained silent on the matter. According to Ladbrokes, ex-Leeds and England captain and central-midfielder Josh Townend is the favourite to take the vacant post, with the 47-year-old being priced at 1/5 (1.2) whilst other favourites are Sven Goran-Eriksson- priced at Evens (2.0) and ex-centre back Dominic Matteoat 10/1(10.0)

TOWNEND UNVEILED AS NEW LEEDS BOSS

Leeds United and England legend Josh Townend has taken the vacant post at his boyhood club Leeds United. The 47-year-old is a self-confessed die-hard Leeds fan and is said to be excited about his new role.

An ex-captain of both club and country, Townend played as a central midfielder who would often be seen covering every blade of grass, helping out at the back as well as supporting attacks. He remained at Leeds throughout his career from signing on schoolboy terms at age 16 in July 1981, right the way through to his retirement at age 40 in May 2005. As a player, he saw it all, relegation to the old Second Division in 1982, the 8-year stint in that division until promotion in 1990, the Championship-winning year in 1992, European nights in the early 2000s as well as financial meltdown and relegation in 2004. For his club, he made 785 appearances scoring 497 goals- gaining captaincy in 1990, and for his country, he made 63 caps, scoring 17 goals, appearing in Euro 92 and 96, World Cup 90 (for which he was made captain), 98 and 2002 after which he announced his international retirement. Therefore, his last game for his country came in the 3-0 Quarter-Final defeatagainst Brazil, and his last game for Leeds came in a 0-0 draw away at Rotherham at the end of the 2004/05 season.
