BREAKING NEWS:

Ally McCoist departs Rangers after 16 years of service, 15 as a player and just one season as manager.

Post Departure Interview with Ally McCoist and Rangers FC Supporters Spokesperson John Macmillan:

McCoist: "I felt that it was time to move on and find a new challenge, not that taking this club up three divisions isn't a challenge but the amount of time, effort and work rate that is needed, i no longer have the interest for. But i want to thank the club and its supporters for giving me their full support over the last year or so. This is a wonderful football club and i will give my congratulatiuons to who ever takes over my position. I'm just not sure if managing a club in the 4th tier of Scotland is where i want to be. Hell, i'm not even sure the role of managing a side is right for me. I know it seems like a strange time only a few weeks before the season starts, to leave but that is my final decision. Thank you"

Macmillan: "On behalf of the board of directors, the players, the coaching staff , myself and the supporters i want to thank Ally for everything he acheived here as manager. We are in a difficult transitional period and a lot of change is inevitable. We respect Ally's decision to leave and we are already in talks to replace the vacancy but an announcement you should not expect to see until the weekend at the very least"

Sky Sports Early favourites to become the new Rangers manager:

Brian Laudrup 20/1

Richard Gough 44/1

David Weir 67/1

Duncan Ferguson 73/1

BREAKING NEWS:

Rangers announce Duncan Ferguson as new head coach

Here's what he had to say:

"It's an honour to be appointed as manager of such a historic, successful club and i'm very pleased that the chairman has trusted me with this position. Obviously we have to look at a very straight forward promotion push and i know that we are capable of greater things. The club has some fantastic youth products and i won't be disrupting any of their development over the course of my time here. I will look to the club's youth along the way as we are currently in a strict finnancial situation. I believe you need a good mix of experience and youth in a side to be succesful. It will take some time though, to get the club back to where it belongs in the top divsion of Scottish football but i will assure you that the future looks to be very promising"
