Life after retirement was not all it was hyped up to be. My wife was pestering me to do stuff like watch lame chick-flicks, go to charity events and stuff like that. Even though this story might just seem BS, it really wasn't. A couple of shopping sprees and expensive vacations later, my bank account was almost empty. Where'd all that money go? No idea. I could not live the glamorous life anymore, 'cause I could simply not afford it. I needed to get a job.
My job prospects weren't great obviously, because I spent my whole career in football. So, my first thoughts were to get a coaching job. I applied at Bayern Munchen, Bayer Leverkusen and a couple of other top-tier clubs, but they all swiftly rejected my application because they said they didn't have an opening.
"Where else could I get a job?" I pondered. What about...Chelsea?
I left them back in 2010, but I still am remembered back in London due to my time at the club. Maybe I could ask Roman Abramovich to hire me?
I didn't have his number, since he was a very private person, so I had to do things the old fashioned way.
And so, I set off on my journey to London, with the all I money I had left to spare.
