Chelsea Football Club has parted company this morning with Manager Roberto Di Matteo.
He was fired after it was decided that he will not stay on as interim manager.

The club faces a difficult task ahead in qualifying for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League as well as mounting a strong challenge for the top of the Premier League while competing in three other cup competitions. Our aim is to remain as competitive as possible and challenge strongly on all fronts.

The owner and the Board would like to thank Roberto for all he has done for the club since taking over in March. Roberto helped guide us to an historic Champions League victory and a seventh FA Cup.

We will never forget the huge contribution he has made to this club's history and he will always be welcome at Stamford Bridge.

The club will be making an announcement shortly regarding a new manager for the club.

Chelsea sack manager Roberto Di Matteo after deciding against keeping him

Former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola and ex-Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez have emerged as the early favourites to replace Di Matteo.

However, Harry Redknapp and former Stamford Bridge boss Jose Mourinho have also been mentioned as contenders for the position.

"The team's recent performances and results have not been good enough and the owner and the Board felt that a change was necessary now to keep the club moving in the right direction as we head into a vitally important part of the season," read a statement on the club website.

Here are some odds on the next manager from Sky Bet:
Josep Guardiola 5/1
Jose Mourinho 6/1
Harry Redknapp 13/1
Rafael Benitez 35/2

Many other ex-Chelsea players are included on the list, all of them, however, are rank outsiders for this post.

P.S: I have made two minor database changes: It will become evident very soon!

Chelsea are today delighted to announce that ex-Chelsea legend Claude Makelele will be taking over as first team manager.

He has the full backing from all of the board members, and will be allowed to make any squad and staff changes as he wishes.

We hope that he can take us to new heights during his hopefully lengthy tenure as manager.

Chelsea appoint Makelele as manager

In what seemed a shock dismissal of former interim manager Roberto Di Matteo has become a further shock, after Chelsea have today officially announced via their website that ex-Blues midfielder Claude Makelele will take over as manager.

Early rumours have it that he will be appointing new staff, with former Germany captain and teammate Michael Ballack ready to help out with the day-to-day running of the club.

More as it comes in.

Chelsea triumph in nail-biting win

Chelsea defeated Manchester City on this fine summer's afternoon in the Community Shield Final.

The First Half

The first half was rather boring considering the talent on show. Nothing happened until the 33rd minute, when, with Mata off the field, City cleared a Chelsea corner to David Silva on the left wing. He made a run all the way down the pitch where he squared it and Yaya Toure was there to tap-in. Nothing else happened other than a few bookings

The Second Half

Much more exciting football was on show, although nothing really happened until the 64th minute, when Claude Makelele bought on new signing Shane Long to replace the poor Fernando Torres. The game immediately livened up, and Chelsea began to attack with more strengh. City's defence held firm until the 84th minute, when, after good link-up play between Mata and Ramires on the right, Juan Mata's cross found Shane Long to score on his debut. Chelsea immediately brightened up, hitting the bar 3 times in the next four minutes. However, penalties would be the judge of the match.

Penalties

Chelsea City

Lampard Aguero
Hazard Balotelli
Cole Kaka
Long Toure

Final Score:City 1-1 Chelsea (Chelsea win 3-1 on penalties)

August

The August results were decent in my opinion. They all showed my attacking prowess, as well as my defensive weaknesses.

Norwich 3-4 Chelsea

Holt (Pen) Ramires
Morison Long
Bennett Heitinga
Mata

Chelsea 5-1 QPR

Hazard Park Ji-Sung
Terry
Ramires
Lampard (Pen)
Mata
Ivanovic

Tottenham 3-0 Chelsea

Adebayor (2) Vidal
Bale
Adebayor (scored rebound)

At. Madrid 1-2 Chelsea (AET)

C. Rodriguez Ivanovic
Piazon (120+2)

Injuries

Lampard 2-3 months
Azpilicueta 9-11 days
Cole 1-4 days (been out since Norwich)

That's some huge spending you've done, and I'm doubtful if it'll pay off.

Other than that, I feel you've got off to a great start in both story and in-game and I look forward to reading more.
A great start to you story. I've never seen anybody sign Vidal so I'm looking forward to the good performances he'll turn in for you. :D

So far he has been sent off, but has an average rating of 7.85 :)

September

September went fairly well with my cup competitions, although I dropped 4 points in the league. The Reading game I conceded from set pieces. I was unlucky not to score more against Cluj, and my games against Liverpool and Brighton were brilliant. Unfortunately against Newcastle I conceded 3 in the second half, with Vidal once again being sent off :( .

October

October

Going into October, I had just come off the back of a 3-0 defeat and was looking to pick the team up. The result against was a great game, but we lost the flair in the United game, with a disappointing defeat. An Ashley Cole goal was enough to win it at Villa Park, although the disciplinary problems continued with Ramires being given a straight red. A Long goal won it against Juventus in a match we dominated, before a game against Stoke, which saw Vidal and Mata both sent off for second bookable offences. Very disappointed in Vidal as this was his third red card of the season. The CAC game against QPR saw a young side play, due to injuries and suspensions, and saw the full debuts of Bryan Rabello, who put in an excellent display with two goals, Matheus (who had previously been out on loan) and Ralf Fährmann in goal.

November

November

November was not a great month in the league, picking up only 4 points from a possible 12. Unfortunately, being Chelsea, there were many rumours of myself being "under-fire" and "insecure", even though Didier Drogba backed me. I have qualified from my Champions League group with 12 points and will most likely finish top. I got better towards the end of the month, but my job security is currently insecure.

League Table

Not much success here at the moment.

December

Expect to see Club World Cup games in the next report!

December and the Christmas period

December is and probably always will be one of the toughest months in the football calendar. I didn't start well, with a defeat to Benfica and Juventus winning seeing me finish second in my group. However, I pushed on and had probably my best month to date. I have started to push back up in the table, now 8 matches unbeaten in the league, with 2 games in hand. I beat Burnley to keep my cup ambitions on track. We did pick up a serious injury to Shane Long though, who broke his leg and will probably not play again.

Then I headed to Japan, where I comfortably won the Club World Cup (Hopefully we can be there next year!). I returned and kept my Prem form up, especially with a 4-2 victory over Southampton, where I was 2-0 down.

January

Very pleased with this month's set of results. Unbeaten now since December 1st in all competitions for 16 games. All performances were excellent. Unfortunately, we suffered an injury to Ramires, who will be out for 2-3 months.

League Table

Doing much better in the league, and with 2 matches in hand, things are beginning to look better.
