"Please wait while setup is preparing"... for over an hour?

Hi

I got FM13 at Christmas, and downloaded Genie Scout to go with it. However, having not used it in a while I found that when I opened it up yesterday it said that there was a new version out, so I uninstalled the old one and downloaded the current one. This doesn't seem to be working out for me, as I load the launcher and all that appears is a little grey box in the middle of the screen saying "please wait while setup is preparing", which it has been doing for over an hour now. With the last edition taking only a few seconds to install, I thought that an hour might be a problem so thought I'd come looking for help.

I'm running Windows 8 64 bit if that helps at all (at least i think it's 64 bit, havent got used to it enough to find things quickly, silly new machine).

Recap - Unzipped new GS13, run installer, doesnt get further than the first little grey box, and doesnt do anything unless shut down by task manager. Any help?

Oops, accidentally made two threads instead of one. Sorry about that.

Bram 1st i suggest you go to www.ninite.com and in the list you get too see there, select classic start then get installer and you can install the start button for windows 8, will be handy i guess.

Back to the installation of GS, i have win 8 aswell and it runs and installs fine, try to redownload it and install it from within the zip (if you have 7-zip it works pretty easy).
If that doesn't work, extract it and try to run the installer as admin. this might make it easier to get it installed.

if this aint working either check if there aint a popup (by alt-tabbing) that screws it over or maybe an anti virus program that blocks it.

if it still doesn't install get ccleaner from piriform.com and clean your register just in case

Thanks, Managed to get it working with 7-zip. had been using Pea Zip, definitely converted now though. I think I found the underlying problem as well - the system had wanted to do a bios update so now that I have had a fight with the laptop over it taking an hour to restart, everything is loading up in seconds rather than the time it has taken over the last few days (VLC player took 20 minutes to load up yesterday, seconds now after the restart)
