I'm a massive chelsea fan iv'e done 2 save's with chelsea and i always concede goals against small teams and i'm very inconsistent it seems in the league but always good in the cup i always buy another striker but what ever i do with chelsea it just won't click for me with them, i just want to be a success and win the premier league eventually then maybe move to another team i just need help with tactic's or what i'm doing wrong with them, or maybe it's not a team for me on fm?
Check your players concentration stats, also make sure you have dedicated at least a bit of training to defending positioning and set piece defending at some point.
Im playing as newcastle and i rarely conceed goals as i have tweeked everything to near perfection, and worked intensely at the start on the teams defense. Also make sure you have a good defense coach (it cant hurt at the very least). I play traditional 4-4-2, but my teams tactic familiarity is always full before the end of pre-season. Check your tactic familarity levels, they may not be high enough. Also try not to chance tactics too often. I find picking two tactics and using them every game works perfect. If you chance to say 5 at the back and you have never done that before, your team wont be used to it and will struggle.
i also find that if i can get a few goals lead, the opposite team tends to crumble and their heads then drop so they dont score silly goals.
However so many people have reported this, it COULD be a bug, but i havent seen any evidence in my games apart from maybe say 5 games out of nearly 3 seasons at Newcastle.
Finally just check your own manager rating. If you are a big team like Chelsea you will have a team full of world class or continental class players and if your managber rating is "national" or something like that, they wont play well for you until it increases (i.e. you win things), the players just wont feel motivated to play for an unknown manager. I find it helps if when you cretae your manager profile that you choose "interntional footballer" as your manager history, that tends to help you initially when you start with a big club.
