Gary Mackay-Steven (Born August 31st, 1990) is a Scottish footballer playing for Scottish Premier League club Dundee United. A natural and "traditional" left-winger, Mackay-Steven is widely known for his ability and technique within the game, often performing tricks to evade the opposition. Starting his youth career with Ross County and then moving to Liverpool (Released in 2009 due to constant injury), he enjoyed nineteen first-team appearances for Airdrie United before signing for Dundee United in July 2011.

Details:

Name: Gary Mackay-Steven
DOB: 31/08/1990
POB: Thurso, Scotland
Height/Weight: 171cm/71kg
Club: Dundee United (SPL)
Position: Attacking Midfielder/Midfielder (Left)
Capped: U21, 3 app - 1 goal
Wage before/after tax: £1.2k/£775
Contract expires: 31/05/2015
Value: £800k

At only 21-years-old, Gary Mackay-Steven is that typical young winger who offers promise and whatsmore, his in-game starting value is only £800k and is paid £1.2k per week. At the start of the season clubs are very keen on him so snap him up quickly as interest will rise along the course of the season with Dundee United.

Five key strengths:

Dribbling, 15:
An already established dribbler on the ball, perfect for the position he plays. An often touchline-hugging player who can (And will!) happily tear a defense down.

First touch, 14:
A fine controller of the ball which teams up perfectly with his Dribbling and Technique.

Technique, 16:
GMS is known to perform some ecstatic tricks and skills, an encouraging sixteen will aid his ability on the byline.

Flair, 17:
The perfect combination of Dribbling, Technique and Flair is what makes the perfect winger. A trait to hold in high-regard and to nurture rather than blowing millions on a player with equal or less ability.

Work Rate, 15:
A hard worker and willing to go the distance, strives for the all important win.

Those hindering weaknesses:

Natural fitness, 9:
An adequate statistic which may affect Gary Mackay-Steven in a full 90-minute battle with a rival, important match etc.

Concentration, 10:
For those who want complete undivided attention from their players, the Concentration stat is important. A modest 10 may cause the player to be irritable in the dressing room or restless on the pitch.

Positioning, 9:
May wander in-field from his natural Winger/Attacking Midfielder position, but a little positional training will prove useful.

Strength, 8:
When on the front-foot and battling with the opposing full-back, a strong Winger is crucial. Training will be needed in this area.

To sum it up:

A talented homegrown footballer to be implored. A very technical Winger/Attacking Midfielder who from the start of the 2012/13 season should be considered for purchase. Proven to be a very consistent footballer, he can also be trained to play as an Attacking Midfielder Right & Centre and Centre Midfielder. Despite only seeing him at the same club for three seasons, in my opinion, Gary Mackay-Steven should be introduced to a much more competitive league than the Scottish Premier League, such move would encourage progress and see those vital statistics keep improving. Another footballer whos real-time performances arent credited in the Football Manager series, I would recommend lower-end Premier League and title-challenging nPower Championship clubs and/or of that level purchase Gary Mackay-Steven.

Current ability: 6/10
Potential abilty: 8/10
Overall rating: 7/10
