Watford Fixtures

Northampton 2-3 Watford
For most of the first half, Watford owned the game without reward. However, at the 43 minute mark, Almen Abdi clashed with the Northampton Goalkeeper, Lee Nicholls, earning his team a Penalty. Daniel Pudil put it calmly away in the center of the net, sending Nicholls the wrong way. Their lead wouldn't last, as Akinfenwa was given a chip pass that he blasted in to the top left corner from outside the net, against the run of play. In the second half, the Hornet's reiterated their dominance, Forestieri struck a nice shot at 59 minutes, 20 minutes later he repeated the goal almost to the point, putting Watford up by 2. In the last 10 minutes, Northampton began to increase their level of attack, managing to score another, this time through the touch of Louis Moult.
Watford 1-0 Swindon
Fernando Forestieri took Swindon by the scruff of the neck early in the home fixture, putting three shots on target in the first 16 minutes, his third shot, ending up in the back of the net. From then on, Swindon picked up the pace and Watford seemed to play a more defensive game. In a hideous 57 minute tackle, Simon Ferry was put on the bench with no replacement, a red card held in the air.
Watford 0-3 Birmingham
Watford's League cup dreams came crashing to an end in their biggest loss of the season to date. Lovenkrands put the Blues ahead early, with a goal 12 minutes in. Marlon King got his head on the ball from the corner at 65 minutes to make it 2-0 before David Murphy put the win beyond doubt with an 80 minute long-shot. Many Watford fans left early, frustrated with the loss, but exited for the season ahead.

Stoke City 1 - 0 Watford
The FA Cup proved predictable, but still, disappointing for Hornet fans this season. In their first and only fixture, they drew Stoke City at the Britannia, meaning most of the Watford fans who made the journey were quite pessimistic. The game was, for the most part, very dull, but only 12 minuets in, Kenwyne Jones scored the only goal of the game. What was most frustrating, was that Watford seemed to perform almost the equal to Stoke, only going slightly behind on shots and possession.

Watford Pre-January League Summary

The first half of the season, league-wise, has been very positive for the Watford faithful. The Hornets have recorded only 3 losses to the date, accumulating 43 points and standing at a confident 4th position, only a win behind first. Below, we'll show you the most memorable games by month, and the best Watford player along with it.

August Player of the Month
Ventek announced, on the last day of August that he would announce, in his opinion, the best performer, on average, across the games. In this month, he declared that Alex Geijo was the outstanding performer, stating that "the hat-trick on the opening day was memorable."

September Player of the Month
Ventek declared Nathaniel Chalobah the player of the month after he was given a chance in the first team, and instantly became one of the key players. Despite being on loan, Ventek told press that the young Englishman "has a very important role to play here, this season."

October Player of the Month
Fitz Halls was hailed as player of the month for coming off the bench and cementing his position in the first team by gathering 2 Man of the Match awards. The English center-back is best known for his time at Queens Park Rangers and joined Watford at the end of the 2011/12 season.

November Player of the Month
Will Hughes was named player of the month for November after consistent performances and a man of the match award. Ventek was pleased to be able to give him the award, saying "I am glad Will is already a big name at Watford, but he is only 17, there is a lot more to see." Hughes left his youth-team derby for Watford four months ago for a sum of 4 million+exchanged players. Hughes has since become Watford's youngest ever goalscorer.

December Player of the Month
Fitz Hall took in his second player of the month award for Watford after some very consistently good performances. "Fitz didn't step a foot wrong this month, he was fantastic." Ventek told his fans upon announcing Hall's victory.

Most Memorable Game
Peterborough 1-3 Watford
Watford accumulated very little possession in the first half, and almost looked to concede in the first 10 minutes, not the perfect championship debut for Ventek. The first goal of the game, however, came through Udinese forward on-loan, Alex Geijo. The Spaniard volleyed the ball thanks to a speedy counter-attack, the approach Watford took for the rest of the game. Despite clawing possession back in the second half, Watford continued to attack in short boosts and were constantly defending. They finally succumbed to George Boyd's tap-in at 66 minutes, but responded soon after with Geijo hammering in a long range short on the 81st minute. Geijo, on his hat-trick, seized a defender mistake to confirm the 3 points only four minutes later.

Watford Fanzone

Three on the way out
Watford's website has confirmed the transfers of three players; Jonathan Hogg, Nyron Nosworthy and Lloyd Doyley, who go to Norwhich for £2M, Scunthorpe for £10k and St. Johnson on a Free, respectively. However, Doyley will remain at Watford until the summer transfer window.

Of the three, Hogg is the only one who has made more than three appearances for the club this year, and fans have not responded too badly to the losses, excluding Doyley, who the Hornets faithful have a soft spot for, the full-back holding the most appearances for Watford in the current squad, at an impressive 337.

Ventek spans up Barcelona Bargain
Ilie Sanchez, more commonly known as Ilie has signed for Watford. The 22 year old has been at Barcelona for his entire career, spending the majority of it in the 'B' team, but making 2 first team appearences for the club that is widely considered best in the world.

Ilie was considered a very good buy to most of the Watford fans, as he was a minuscule £95k, due to being on the transfer list. Ilie told press of his excitement to try something else, and to be given a chance in the first team. It is believed that Ventek will play him as a defensive midfielder, perhaps to replace the Norwich-bound Jonathan Hogg.

Ones for the Future
Tariqe Fosu has signed for £300k from Reading to join Watford's youth ranks. When Ventek announced the signing he told press that "Tariqe isn't in my immediate plans. However, once he has developed, he will be." The winger was loan listed before he had even joined the club, in an effort to get him first-team experience. Fosu, after signing his contract, traveled to Harrow, where he is now on Loan until the end of the season.

Sam Johnstone, a young English goalkeeper, currently playing for the Manchester United reserves has agreed terms with Watford. Despite the fee being undisclosed, it is believed to be about £200k. Johnstone will remain at Manchester for the remainder of the season, before he makes his entry at Vicarage Road.

Great signings as well as the sells.

Geijo Hailed for Goalscoring
Lukas Ventek has piled the compliments on Alex Geijo, telling press that he is very happy that the Spaniard has produced so many goals for Watford so far this season. "Alex has really surprised me." Ventek said passionately. "I knew he was prolific, but not this prolific. He has contributed so much this season, and when he heads back to Italy, he can hold his head up high." So far, in 32 games, Geijo has scored 24 goals, not dissimilar to his loan to Granada two seasons ago, when he scored 24 in 34.

Watford announce Training Facility development
The Hornets board have announced that they are injecting a large sum of money in to the Training facilities in attempt to improve the potential of the players. It is believed that manager, Lukas Ventek, may have influenced this decision after signing a group of young players and expressing his desire to sign more.

Ventek was happy to hear the news. "It's fantastic that we can make ourselves a club that is able to produce talent. I'd love to be one of those clubs like Southampton who are known to make young players in to well-known players."
