So here he is, Marcos Contreras, the young South-American striker who scored 15 goals last season, including two against us. He is late, we have been waiting for him since 11am and it's nearly 11:30. Tony [Burman, the Director of Football] were beginning to wonder if he would come. But we won't mention that to him, we need to stay in the perfect condition to conlude our first deal of the summer, and it is a big one.He is now just in front of me. We shake hands and introduce ourself even if he already knows me for the two confrontations in Blue Square Bet South last year.
We are now heading for the office that I share with Tony, who seems to get on with Marcos as they don't stop speaking and laughing. I'm just noticing that Marcos speek very well English after a bit more than four years in Europe. Here is the office.
Everthing is ready. We already had talks with Marcos cousin and agent, Diego Contreras, and the contract is on my desk, just waiting for signatures. Now I just have to wait for everyone to settle down and have their tea.
I speak: -So, here is our offer. The contract duration is one year. You will receive a weekly wage of 70£ and for each appearances/each goals you will receive a bonus of 8£.
- It is correct, responded Contreras. I'm pleased that everthing was sorted out so quickly.
I gave him the contract and he signed it. He was then brought to the photostudio where the club website journalists will take the first shots of him with a Dartford Shirt before he passes the traditional interview with Glenn.
On my side I was happy to have secured probably the biggest move since joining the club. And I had to work nine months for this signing. Now I don't think we will make many deals, as we already have a good squad.
